And even then, you'd need source code in order to get it to run.

They used to. They moved to linux. The windows port is in development. A quick yahoo search for 'mugen' yields the page http://mugen.elecbyte.com, and a quick look at their faq yields this information.

Does anyone do anything for themselves anymore?

Then you're most likely out of luck, since it doesn't look like you'll put very much effort into something as easy as mugen, either.

Just don't be too shocked if it doesn't output anything to the screen. printf() actually sends stuff through the serial port, so you probably won't see anything.

I think you might be working too hard. Personally, what I do is burn my .bins onto a multisession cd, then boot the dreamcast with DCHakker(i think) and then run from there. Unless you're trying to get it to selfboot, in which case i'm not too sure.

So, what parts of the Z80 need to be rewritten? A lot of it already looks like it's in assembly, but I can't tell if it's in SH4 or not. It doesn't looks like it from what i've heard, but yeah.

For which CPU, though? The Z80 or the m68k(musashi)? Both of them look like really hefty rewrites for asm. If I knew more about the mental steps of doing that kind of work, I'd gladly lend a hand, but this looks way over my head. Kinda sad, considering how much I got into x86 assembly.

Toastman + Shumpals

I was hoping to grill you on your contest entry. Specifically, I'm interested in how your 'enemy respawn pattern' works. I've been playing a bit of Ikaruga for GC, and i've been trying to think how they handle their scripting. How do you handle yours? Or am I looking too hard for something that's no...

He's taking an AP course, yet you tell him to switch majors? As I understand it, AP is high school. He shouldn't even have been able to decide what his major is yet. He definitely should change it, btw, if he can't solve a simple problem like that on his own.

Something doesn't quite add up here.

No, you shouldn't have to. The only stuff you should have to rewrite is the input/output stuff, which usually isn't too bad. Usually.

Sorry about that, I couldn't resist. This is how my 'game' does collision detection too.

Here's a question for those more skilled than I: collision detection with a triangular region?

x86 ASM all the way. In some ways, it's easier than C. I'm finding it hard to go back after a full 3 months of nothing but. But seriously, start small. There's no shame in learning something like BASIC, but it can be discouraging to not have anything good come out for awhile. It's good for the bare ...

Could you clarify which flags in the makefile specify optimization levels? I've got a line that looks something like this:

GCCOPTS = -ml -m4-single-only -O1 -fno-builtin -fno-strict-aliasing -fomit-frame-pointer -nostdlib

Would the optimization level lie with the -O1 flag?

EDIT:
What kind of media are you using? CD-R or CD-RW? I remember CD-RW having trouble.

Don't unplug your controllers. They're not supposed to be unplugged. You can actually burn out your controller board by doing this.

Um. Can you cite a source showing that TMNT was $25,000?
Well, I guess his only defense for that he's Australian. Things might have been much different back then.

My two cents.
