Wii Controller stuff

Post by Quzar »

What's the deal with this controller stuff I keep hearing about. It seems like you need to have 3 different controllers+1accessory (wiimote, classic, gamecube, and nunchuck) just to play all your different possible games (wii, vc, and gamecube). Am I wrong about this? if that's true that seems ridiculously bad. Is there any clue as to firmware updates being used to make gc/classic controllers being used interchangably or being able to use the wiimote+nunchuck for simulated gc controller (just missing some buttons and whatnot?).

If anyone would clear this up for me i'd love it. thanks.

The Wiimote is required for all Wii games. It can also be used for Virtual Console NES games.
The Nunchuck is required for SOME Wii games.
Gamecube controllers can be used for all Virtual Console and Gamecube games. I think some Wii games will use it, like SSB:B, but I'm not sure.
The classic controller can be used for all Virtual Console games (it plugs into the Wiimote, so the Wiimote is required).
It's thinking...

No, because from what I understand, the Gamecube functionality probably can't access the Wii hardware, and the classic controller plugs into the Wiimote. Besides that, the Classic controller does not have analog triggers like the Gamecube's controller does.

Since there's just a few games on the VC, couldn't they just make control schemes to play most of them with the Wiimote?
And the Classic controller not working with gc games... I guess they just had lots of gc controllers in stock :P

He's talking about the R and L triggers, not the control sticks.

Yes.
To expound upon that, yes, the Wii comes with the following:

1 Wii console
1 Wii remote
1 Wii nunchuck
1 Wii sensor bar
1 Wii Sports disc
1 RCA component cable
a whole bunch of connectors, some stands for holding various things, some sticky tape to stick various stands to various parts, etc.

Boxing is the only game on Wii Sports that requires a nunchuck controller, but it does require it. So, if you want to box against someone else, you will need to buy an extra Wii remote and an extra nunchuck controller.

It isn't super obvious from a front view, but considering how far the triggers stick out, some degree of analog seems right to me.

I wish Nintendo or a third-party releases an adapter for the classic controller to be used with GC games because I didn't buy a GC knowing the Wii played its games.
THAN/THEN get it right peoples!

Yeah, but you can get used GC controllers for like $5-10 each. That's not too bad. I got three of them for my Wii, and it didn't bother me a bit.
