Is it "Line-ux" or is it "Linn-ux"?

That's definately NOT the way to say it...
If you don't want to have the accent every time you say Linux, just say it Lynn-Ucks.

well considering that he is a finn and they I believe have 5 vowels correct me if I am wrong then it should be pronounce "leenoox" but anglophied I believe it is the "len" from the word "lens" and the "ux" from "tuxedo"
english is such a frikking stupid language why can't they be like spanish THE BEST LANGUAGE and be completely phonetic, in spanish we have 5 vowels in english 34...what a waste...

The other way sounds stupid in my head. I've only ever talked about Linux to two people (and that was before I really knew anything about it) and one said it one way, one the other.perry2175 wrote:I don't pronounce it like that though...sounds stupid..az_bont wrote:I think I'll still stick with Kron's way. 5 letters, 34 sounds that they produce, why can't the brits and americans, and all canadians and australians form an academy to officially regulate the language like spanish? Why not phonetisize the damn thing? It really isn't that hard, there was a time when spanish wasn't phonetic but they got smart and phoetisized it and regulated it, started la real academia espanola. I mean for godsakes english has crap like "blingbling" in the dictionary...I thought English had 5 vowels as well, A, E, I, O, U.

34? the alphabet only has 26 letters, where the hell did the other 8 come from?
The reason for having: A firewall
Independance day, the aliens were destroyed because a computer was used to access their network and disable key systems. If they had had a firewall, the earth would be just another worthless rock floating in space.

ummmm vowel is a sound, that is why english isn't phonetic because the 5 I repeat 5 vowels make a range of 34 sounds not to mention the prevalence of silent letters and the non-standard letter combinations. Example34? the alphabet only has 26 letters, where the hell did the other 8 go?
PH in- physics, and haphazard- not the same sound? (irregular letter combinations)
A in- extricate and cat and father
U in- penguin, puff and put
Get my point, those letters are serving for more than one sound
In english one could spell "fish" as "ghoti" (enough, women, initiate)It makes the exact same sound as fish
