The Japanese games you wish you could play in English
There are many wonderful games for the Dreamcast that never made it to English speaking audiences, so out of the Japanese titles you're aware of, which ones do you wish were were translated so that you could enjoy them? The two that come to mind for me would be:
Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream (3d platformer/Rpg) - beautifully designed levels, colorful characters, terrific soundtrack! The music alone makes me want to play this game so badly, if only I could follow the story and know what they're saying
Seven Mansions (survival horror) - A survival horror game where up to 2 players can play simultaneously. The objective appears to be searching 7 mansions for a doctor, and while doing so avoiding the monsters that aim to stop you.
So what games did you wish you had a chance to play in English?

I played Napple tale to the end using a Gamefaq guide, its an excellent experience as it is... translated would be much better
Rent a Hero No1 this is an excellent RPG using the Spikeout engine and has great humour. I'm almost at the end, but i feel i'm missing 90% of the content and jokes.
Dreamstud!o a great application, but quite unusable without knowing japanese.
segagaga they say its great... we suffer
Fushigi Dungeon - Furai no Shiren Gaiden: Onnakenshi Asuka Kenzan i personally want to play this one very much!

The El Dorado Gate series...
Blue Submarine...
Black Matrix...
Fushigi Dungeon - Furai no Shiren Gaiden: Onnakenshi Asuka Kenzan...
These are ones I would like. There are many others and the walkthroughs are good and some of the translation techniques used to try to figure things out are good, but nothing compares to playing the games in your native language.
I would really like to play through the El Dorado Gate series without the language barrier.

I decided to look up Segagaga and found this:
"The most important part of Sega is the Tera Drive, a super computer that houses the heart and soul of Sega. It's equipped with 4096 512-bit CPUs, each running at 333 gHZ, with 512 terabytes of RAM. It can also display 167,700,000 sprites on a single horizontal place."
Hilarious.

Segaga, El Dorado Gate, and a whole ton of stuff for Saturn. I can't even recall all of it. There was *so* much nifty stuff for Saturn that never made it out of Japan...that's part of why I got rid of mine. Most of the really worthwhile games either weren't translated, or were rare enough that the price was ridiculous.

My main wishes have already been mentioned. Rent-a-Hero (which has been translated, but I just don't want to buy an Xbox) and Segagaga. I never felt like was missing out on that much in Napple Tale.

I think it's pretty usable. There's a very good FAQ available for it which is probably as good at explaining the scripting system as the manual. The fact is the scripting system is incredibly complex so even if you understood Japanese, it would still be hard to figure out. It just takes time, though. You have to just start with simple and direct events like "when the player is in X space, Y happens" or "when the player presses button A, Z happens." You can do a lot with those basic scripts, but eventually you'll just naturally start trying more advanced scripts and learn the ins and outs of the system through logic and trial and error.Segata Sanshiro wrote:Dreamstud!o a great application, but quite unusable without knowing japanese.
It's okay, but not spectacular in my opinion. It's basically like a 3D Breakout with the added twist that your player can do moves like flips and wall walking between hits. Ideally, I suppose the game would give a real sense of satisfaction as you nimbly hop about the arena doing your flips and kicks while whacking the ball about and causing all sorts of visual fireworks, unfortunately I've never gotten to the level with the game. Aiming for the bricks is too hard so as you get towards the end of a round you'll just spend a lot of time just hitting the ball back and forth with the wall, which takes all the fluidity and satsifaction out of the game in my opinion. It's still worth buying, but just don't spend a lot for it. $20 or $30, I'd say.DaMadFiddler wrote:...Incidentally, is that smash game any good? I don't recall the name; the one that looked like a cross between Rez and Virtua Tennis.

Baldr Force Exe: It's kick ass as it is, but I want to get to know more about the story, which seems to be of exceptional quality.
Sakura Taisen Series, no need to explain this one I think.
Seven Mansions: It has always sounded like a very interesting game to me.
