I just reformatted, and I am looking for the best overal virus protection software. It can be free or retail, my dad is willing to buy it. I just want one that detects viruses quickly as I'm working and it doesn't eat much memory in the background (I'm on 300mhz). I was using AntiVir, and it was pretty good, but it was more like a first try software, I'd like to get comments on some other types and if I like it better then I might stick with it.
My dad has FreeAVG on his laptop, and I can say it's quite annoying. It failed to detect some trojans we had, and it slows the computer's startup process down a bit.

We have an old version of McAfee Virusscan bought. I can't remember what version, but we bought it in 2002. I'm assuming they'd want me to pay for it all over agian since the upgrade would be so big?
I never did like Norton. Macafee is pretty good, but you gotta buy it every year. Usually they give you upgrades free for a year, after that they update the software and of course require you to buy the updated software in order to get updates.

Symantec Corporate AntiVirus v9.0. IMHO the best; all of the great protection of Norton, plus some, and with a smaller footprint and no goofy interface. Message me if you'd like.
