Re: Genesis Doesn't
I was so against Nintendo. I was brought up on Sega and was too young to understand that more than one thing might be good. Many years later I discovered DreamSNES and stuck a thread in Off Topic asking for SNES rom game recommendations. I finally realized what a fool I had been.

In terms of general preference, IMO:
RPGs- SNES wins hands down
Fighting - SNES has the more arcade-loyal Mortal Kombat II. Sega has the more arcade-loyal Street Fighter II.
Action - Sega
Adventure - SNES
Platforming, SHMUPs, Beat-em-ups - Pick your poison.
Couldn't have one without the other.

Pier Solar? It was an excellent indie undertaking, but if you take it as it is, it really isn't that good.

I don't know why people try to kid themselves.
The Genesis was a good console.
But the SNES was by far the better console.

Agreed.
Its primary success was due to third-party, non-exclusive games being "cooler" on the Genesis, due to effects like blood. And brilliant marketing. When you compare first-party and third-party exclusives on each console, it isn't even a contest. Just from Nintendo's in-house and Squaresoft alone.
With that being said, if it was a game on both systems, I chose the Genesis version just because I preferred the controller.

Re: Genesis Doesn't
HOW. The Genesis controller is the fucking worst. There are so many titles I want to play through on Genesis, but then I think of having to use that godawful controller and I put it off. The regular version is too fucking big and uncomfortable, and the ABC-in-a-horizontal-row layout doesn't make sense from a perspective of having a thumbtip-and-joint perpendicular to the row of buttons. And then the SNES had two shoulder buttons that could be used. Sure, the Genesis later had a 6 button controller, but all 6 buttons were on the face, which only really made sense for fighting games.Jeeba Jabba wrote:With that being said, if it was a game on both systems, I chose the Genesis version just because I preferred the controller.
Genesis did have some superior music abilities though. Listen to Ken's Theme on SF2 for arcade, then compare Ken's Theme on SNES to Ken's Theme on Genesis. Genesis wins.

Re: Genesis Doesn't
I just liked the bigger buttons and bigger shape of the original controller.

This is also true.BlueCrab wrote:SNES ain't got Shining Force or Phantasy Star.DanteJay wrote:SNES ain't got Pier Solar.Eviltaco64X wrote:In terms of general preference, IMO:

I also consider Sega CD titles like Lunar: The Silver Star as part of the Genesis library of games, simply because you need a Genesis to play Sega CD games. The SNES would have had the Play Station, but as we know that was scrapped. So I think Sega CD (and 32x) titles qualify in the argument of Genesis VS SNES library of games. And in that case, I would probably be in favor of the Genesis library.
As for controllers, love my official wireless Genesis controllers. Although, SNES addition of shoulder buttons was awesome.

The Playstation was $2,000 at launch, and that's the main reason the Saturn did so well at only $399.|darc| wrote:except with an MSRP of $299USD, like 4 kids had a Sega CD.DanteJay wrote:This is also true.BlueCrab wrote:SNES ain't got Shining Force or Phantasy Star.DanteJay wrote:SNES ain't got Pier Solar.Eviltaco64X wrote:In terms of general preference, IMO:
