First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
Here's the first screenshot of SFIV from the January 08 issue of EGM.
"Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality)."

I like the way it looks. Oh, and Ryu is packing a big one if you know what I mean.

Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
Graphics will look great and animation will top 3s. It's the best way to do it.

Hmm, looks like Chun Li's stage in SF2. Maybe theyre going to reintroduce all of the old stages?

Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
Two more screenshots:
Some more info from Kotaku:
According to Blogeek, Street Fighter IV will take place some time between Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter III, which makes the return of Chun Li and Dhalsim more understandable.
The site also mentions that the game will run at 60 frames per second, pretty necessary for fighting games of this kind, and confirms online play.
Gone is the parry system, they say, as it will be replaced by a canceling system dubbed either "Saving" or "Revenge." On the offensive side, an "Ultra" move will be available as well as the "Super" moves in the style of Super Street Fighter II.
What we don't quite believe, though, is the rumored inclusion of Sheng Long. Take it all with a grain of salt, but we're willing to believe for the time being.

Graphics don't look all that great to me. Not talking quality-wise, but they don't seem like they would be good for Street Fighter.

I'm expecting Akuma with Shun Goku Satsu. If not, this game fails.
Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
I simply could give a damn less about this game now that its not in 2d. I also dont like the fact that its after 2 and before 3 yet called 4.
I mean the timeline was pretty easy to understand but now doesnt make any sense.
Alpha 3, Alpha 2, Alpha, 1, 2(and all of its spin offs), 3, double impact, 3rd strike.
Why make 4 not make any sense.

Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
They kind of had to make it in 3D. I'm sure there are a lot of die-hard Street Fighter fans that would have loved a 2D Street Fighter and ran out and bought it on release day. But they are also trying to attract new gamers aswell. I'm not sure that the Xbox 360 and PS3 high-definition gamers would take to it very well. They would just look at the box and be like "These graphics suck" and throw it back down. So they've tried to blend 2D with 3D to get the best of both worlds. Although it looks like we'll have to wait for some gameplay videos to see how the graphics are really going to work.RMD wrote:I simply could give a damn less about this game now that its not in 2d. Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
If it still plays on a 2D plane and is just as fast, I don't see why the big concern against 3D visuals.

No, they could have just stopped making more Street Fighters and came up with a new concept. I'm still curious how it plays; I'll rent it.Calavera wrote:They kind of had to make it in 3D.

Ah if only it was cel-shaded I guess that would involve actual work and talent.

I was thinking the same thing--they should've gone cel-shaded. It would keep it with the same art style but in three dimensions.Pyrite wrote:Ah if only it was cel-shaded I guess that would involve actual work and talent.

You think they aren't?Pyrite wrote:Ah if only it was cel-shaded I guess that would involve actual work and talent.
It's not the typical, obvious cel-shading technique. It looks like they're using some kind of non-photorealistic rendering technique that's trying to simulate a cross between an oil painting, and a pencil sketch. Look at Ryu's trousers in that last picture, for example, or Ken's in the one before - there are distinct bands of shading, stylized shadows (they tend towards blue, and start abruptly at the bottom), some outlining, and much of the shading has a hand-drawn look to it.

I noticed that, but it still looks too 'real' and busy for a Street Fighter game in my opinion.

Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
I agree with Darc, it's not really doing it for me. Oh well, there's always Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to look forward to.
But of course, I'll still give it a try.

Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
These are just some still shots that aren't even ingame, taken from a work in progress.
I'll wait until I see some ingame footage to criticize, but I like what I've seen so far.
They're trying to recreate the SFII feel. I don't think that cartoonish cel-shading fits the mold.|darc| wrote:I was thinking the same thing--they should've gone cel-shaded. Re: First Street Fighter IV Screenshot Released
even snk makes 3d fighting games; why not have capcom do the same with their most popular fighting franchise?
either way, I'd play it.
