Windows up or down while driving?

Post by jared1619 »

I was wondering if you really save gas if you drive with your windows down with your a/c off, or does it waste gas because theres more wind resistance because your windows are down.

I always drive with my windows down and my a/c off if its not raining or cold. I'm just wondering if its the most fuel efficient way to go.

Windows up, AC on. The wind resistance and noise alone would be convincing enough to drive with windows up.

There's less resistance when they are down.

Uhh, actually there is less wind resistance when the windows are up.

edit:
Close your windows at higher speeds and use your car's flow-through ventilation system. This will reduce wind resistance and increase fuel economy -- http://www.region.halton.on.ca/Health/P ... engine.htm

Yeah just think of how much drag the back window and all that would cause

i never go fast enough to where driving with the windows down is a problem.
In fact, on my Blazer, the AC takes away a lot of power, so i just roll them down.
Plus, i like putting my arm on the window... that's very comfortable for me.

The noise doesn't really bother me. I actually like driving with the windows down. I'm going to try the flow through ventilation out some soon.

windows down, moon roof open. Usually rest arm on window, except when I have to shift, I usually grab the stearing wheel while I change gears.

If you are driving on the motorway (interstate, highway, autobahn , whatever :P ) then having your windows up and your A/C on would be far more fuel efficient. If you are driving through town and always stopping at lights etc then windows down and A/C off would be more fuel efficient.
