Hey everyone,
After my first original Dreamcast stopped booting, my second used Dreamcast also stopped booting after the initial swirl.. it won't enter bios or start games, the drive just stops spinning. Is this such a common issue? Anything I can do? I don't want to buy Dreamcasts all the time..

Re: Disc drive stops working after logo
It won't enter BIOS? So it just sits at the swirl forever?
It's thinking...

Re: Disc drive stops working after logo
What about your first Dreamcast? It does that too? I've never heard of that happening before personally.
It sounds like an issue with the mainboard. Personally I'd start swapping parts between the two Dreamcasts and see if you can get a working one.

Re: Disc drive stops working after logo
If you put nothing in the Dreamcast (No disc at all) and switch it on, are you able to see the main menu ?
If Yes : it close to be a drive issue.
In this case, listen to the boot sequence when a disc is in your Dreamcast and you switch it on : if the drive try to move but could not read anything, it is probably a lens or power adjustment ( with time the power of laser go down ...) or the mechanism needs some lubrication.
If the drive make no sound : the motor of GD Rom drive is dead ...
If No : it close to be a main-board issue.
Examine carefully all equipment : fan, IO port ... It could be something stopping the boot sequence to goes on.
Personally, I disassemble and clean regularly. You could replace the motor or the lens : parts are the same as "normal CD Rom" because GDRom drive is a CD rom drive with BIOS enhancement for reading "high density zone".
Hope It helps
