Question about getting an Xbox 360 repaired...

Post by MulletMan13 »

All right, my console was manufactured on : 12-03-2005

The console has been running perfectly since I bought it in January, but the last few weeks it has had problems with the disk drive. When put up vertically, the disk drive does not open properly at all. It does open horizontally but not vertically.

The problem is that it seems this is not covered under warranty. I checked into the extended warranty and it only covers the 3 red light problem.

The manufacturer warranty for everything else expired on 1-11-2007. So my disk drive was covered until then, but my console is covered until 1-11-2009... hardly makes sense, I know.

In any case, my main question was this:

What can I do to cause the 3 red-ring problem? I'd really like to get my console completely fixed. I know it will fail, but I'd like to speed it up. Also do they repair your console or just ship you another refurbished one?

Run it with a towel around it.

I guess you can do what bizzle said and leave on for a long time. I think my disc drive got replaced when I got the three red rings too. The box they send you has a sheet with a checklist so you put down whats wrong with your console.

When I had the 3 red rings they sent me a whole new console (well at least a different one).

I was under the impression that temporarily fixed the three red ring problem, after it already happened to you.

Maybe just say that it has the three red ring problem even if it doesn't?

Is the three red ring problem always reproducible? If not, then you could just say it was doing it...
It's thinking...

Not to jack your thread, but I have a 360 Warranty question myself. My right analog channel recently went out and I would like to get the cord replaced. It's the OEM component cables that came with the 360. The system was purchased last March and was manuf. on 08/03/2006. Are these under warranty, or should I just buy a set of new ones?

My 360 also has a sticking tray. Sometimes it opens, sometimes it doesn't. I have it vertical as I'm lacking space for it horizontal and have a fan stand, but it opens nearly all the time if I leave a disc in. Tapping the front of the tray just as it tries to eject sometimes works too.

Sounds good [I hate turning it each time, as it is in limited space]. The towel trick does get rid of 3RR's, but I'm not sure how it would work if I kept playing it..... hrmm.... any other ideas on how to get this wonderful error that so many fear?

Like others have said, putting a towel around it should do the trick. The "towel trick" does fix the 360 temporarily but will do more harm in the long run than good. If you keep doing it eventually it will overheat and you should get the 3 red lights.

Block the vents and force hot air into the intakes.

It's been running for about 3 hours playing divx movies with a towel around it... no problems thus far.

I'd like to just leave a game running, but I don't want to pay attention to it at all. I'd like to just leave it idle, but have it also tax the console... any ideas?

Don't have a space heater, nor do I really care to get one.

And besides couldnt a space heater possible melt the outside of the console? Im not sure if Microsoft would take a broken 360, when it is cleary your fault.

Well I got red rings!.....

But I only got 2 of them, signifying an overheating console. My 360 seems to be a warrior that just won't admit defeat....

Not really sure where to go from here...
