What is all of this emulator stuff about????

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

What is all of this emulator stuff about????

Post by Tstyln »

From what I read, I am thinking that all this emulator stuff allows me to play for example SNES games on my DC, is that right? I know there is NES and Sega MS and Genesis emulators as well. Now I'm ont sure about how to go about this, but this is what I'm thinking, you need to download ROMs and then burn those ROMs onto a CDR with Disc Juggler or something, then you need to burn the emulator to a CDR. So then you put the CDR with the emulator in the DC then like the Utopia boot CD you then put the CDR with the ROMs on it and boom you should be able to play the games. Right?

I honestly am completely guessing on this so please help me. I have Disc Juggler, DC Factory, and DreamSNES, But I have ABSOLUTELY NO idea how to put it all together, it is extremely confusing to me. Please any help will be extremely appreciated.

TIA

Peace 8)

there should be a tutorial on using DCFactory to selfboot DSNES in the DSNES forum. While you're on this site, do NOT mention downloading roms or DC ISOs, as they are considered piracy, which is bad. Don't call us hypocrites, either, we've been over that too many times. >_< But to answer your question (which i can, because i'm not saying where to get them), an ISO is a cd image, and a DC ISO would generally be a pirate copy of a commercial game.
You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

We're not going to help you download illegal stuff here, but

1) Download SNES ROMs
2) Install DCFactory
3) Download the DreamSNES script through DCFactory
4) Run the wizard. Follow the instructions and you should get a .CDI file.
5) Open up DiscJuggler. Go to File > New. Choose CD Image to CD Recorder. Input all your info and go.
It's thinking...
