WTF? I tested my wireless connection and got 167kbps download speed and almost 300kbps upload! That's some crap right there.

That's some bullshit right there, considering we're paying for 8 MBPS cable internet.
It could be bad routing between you and the testmy.net server. All it takes is one troublemaking hop along the way to slow it down. The best way to gauge the bandwidth your ISP is giving you is to test between you and a computer hosted by the ISP itself. Many ISPs provide their own web-based bandwidth tests. See if yours does.

I ran the test twice. The first time I had an IM client and two browser windows open, and I got about 4.6Mbps. I then closed the program (Adium, which is a multiple-IM program based on an expanded version of GAIM) and the extra window and ran the test again, and it gave me 6Mbps, which is what my service is supposed to be.

So who knows.

Faster than usual...
Kickass, I found out that my ISP just upped the bandwidth from 5Mb/down to 7Mb/down, hence why I'm getting those speeds.

Which is, according to them, neither kinda fast nor fast, it's crazy fast.
