Visual Troy Advance 1.4

Post by WRAGGSTER »

This is Metafoxes newspost :

Visual Troy Advance, GPF's port of the Gameboy Advance emulator, Visualboy Advance, to the Dreamcast has been updated. This version is based on the 1.8.0 CVS sourcecode, and while it doesn't improve upon the speed of the emulator, it improves upon the compatibility.

I haven't burnt a disk for the DC in a while and I've forgotten how to.
How do you burn a 1st_read.bin file that did not come with an ip.bin?
I need to be able to burn it with nero so can someone help me out?
I haven't found a useful and recent tutorial yet.

To my knowledge just copy any IP.bin to use. They're all the same.

Can't wait to burn this disk.

IP.BIN replacement
Released: 15-Jan-2002
By: LiENUS
Info: This as far as I know is the first LEGAL ip.bin replacement for the dc, however it is pretty much untested, so far it has been tested with the following:
DCfloys, Wolf3D/DC, PAL Enforcer, and dcload (serial).
This IP.BIN is intended to replace the one from Sega and make it closer to being legal, there are 3 bootstraps in IP.BIN, the Sega one, boostrap #1, and bootstrap #2. The Sega one CANT be replaced, and is the only one remaining in the latest release.
Download Local Copy: ipfull.tgz (latest)
Download Local Copy: ipsmall.tgz (1st release)

I can't get it to burn.

I took the 1st_read.bin file, an ip.bin file, and one rom and put it all into one folder.

I then used selfboot to make a DAO image for nero and then I burned that. I put it in the dreamcast and it just resets when I hit play...the same problem I am having with dreamSNES

Do not use DAO Nero images. It seems as if any version of Nero 6.0 or higher are compatible with TAO mode images and most of them (FWIK the only version above 6.0 is 6.3 that supports DAO images) do not support DAO images.

If the image was a pre-made image you can use Alcohol 120% to burn the image. Just do not change any settings, besides your burning speed.

The newer versions of DiscJuggler now support Nero images, so you can even try that. Just beware that it isn't widely tested and isn't known if it works or not.

Your best bet is to burn a CDI image (DiscJuggler) with Alcohol 120%. Again do not change any settings besides your burning speed. It never fails for me.

I am using Nero 5. DAO image is how I got my NesterDC to work.

I will try making a CDI image and burning it with Alcohol.

I tried making a CDI image for Dreamsnes and burned it with alcohol but I got the reseting problem (see other thread)

EDIT-now when I try making a CDI image with selfboot, it says the file is invalid or doesn't exist.

How are you selfbooting your folder? Make sure you select only the folder that has the IP.BIN and 1ST_READ.BIN. Don't select the folder (if there's one) that is 1 subfolder up from the IP.BIN.

Meaning, select the 1 folder that directly contains those 2 mentioned files.

Yeah, I got it to work, thanks. Now I have another problem though, heh.

I selected load rom (I only put one rom on...just to test it) and I selected the rom. It loads but then it just comes up with a blank white box and nothing happens.

One more thing, could you check out Mugen's thread on the Dreamsnes board? Thanks.

which rom? A couple of roms that I have found that didn't work, did the same thing, they work fine in the windows port though so its either something in my port or just the way its compiled thats breaking it.

A little off-topic, but hey. GPF, I ripped some WAV's from NSF files for my own personal version of Super Mario War, if you want them.

Yes, i have only tested a couple though but they seem to work fine. I haven't tried any of the other gb/gbc dreamcast emulators so I can't compare them though.

The last version of Nero that burns DC Nero images correctly is 5.5.10.56 (and,it's the best version imo)
