Windows 10 Free Upgrade
Anybody tried it yet?
Microsoft has gone nice and is offering a free upgrade.
My Laptop as discussed is filled with viruses and is a pain in the ass at the moment. We discussed that I try a system restore. I never got around to that. I was wondering if Windows 10 could just be a system restore. I won't mind installing all the softwares.
Has anyone tried it yet?

Re: Windows 10 Free Upgrade
Windows 10 didn't give me the option for a clean install but on first boot I went to repair and told it to reinstall cleaning the hard drive. After the reinstall I unpinned the live tiles from the start bar and adjusted it to match windows 7. So far its ok. Glad its free because I would not pay money for this.

Re: Windows 10 Free Upgrade
Upgrade to Windows 10. The upgrade process will convert your Windows 7 or 8.1 product key to a Windows 10 product key. Write the product key down. Download the ISO for Windows 10 here and burn to DVD or USB drive. Then back up all of your important data and format/reinstall Windows 10 from scratch using the DVD/USB drive and the upgraded product key.
It's thinking...

Re: Windows 10 Free Upgrade
I have been thinking about making the switch from Windows 7 Pro but Microsoft's update client wants to give me the standard version of Win 10.
Basically every source on the internet has been saying that Win 7 Pro/Ultimate & 8.1 Pro users would be offered 10 Pro.
Still do want to give it a shot. I've heard good things.

Hello enterprise nightmare.

Have you read the privacy policy ? Even if you do a few registry tweaks it won't be disabled completely. It's like it has a keylogger built in. Except this ones captures voice and everything you do on it as well.

I fucking love Windows 10. It only took five minutes to disable all the new features.

Microsoft just told me it has a free build in anti virus...
Can anyone elaborate on this... all my Windows problem can go away with an anti-virus....

Upgraded!
I can confidently say that I am not being regressive when I say this, "Skip this and stick with Windows 7 until Microsoft can find a decent successor."
I remember being fine with Windows 98 until XP.
I personally did not hate Vista but I wouldn't call it a worthy successor to XP.

If you don't install an anti-virus on Windows 8.x or Windows 10, it will run a basic anti-virus in the background, Windows Defender.cube_b3 wrote:Microsoft just told me it has a free build in anti virus...

If you install something else, Windows Defender turns itself off.
I would honestly still suggest to run something else, like Webroot.
It's thinking...

Re: Windows 10 Free Upgrade
So I was trying to study today and I could not read the fucking eBook my college has provided cause of slow down and pop ups caused by DNS Unlocker. I was still strapped for cash but if I couldn't study everything would be useless. So I bit the bullet and purchased a Web Root CD from Best Buy...
For some reason I couldn't get onto the log on screen for the BestBuy Wifi so I just brought it home and installed it. It installed in a second which was something I have never experienced with any software installation. I ran the antivirus, it caught 2 viruses and didn't do shit to Adware.
I got on the helpline and it didn't help.
I googled how to remove DNS unlocker with Web Root. Went to their support forum and downloaded uBlock. It took care of it and was for free. $50 spent and the main Adware that I wanted to remove wasn't even caught. I supposed I should be glad that DNS Unlocker won't be haunting my PC anymore.

Re: Windows 10 Free Upgrade
Never mind DNS Unlocker is back again.
It is infuriating, the first time it showed up I just uninstalled the extension.
Next I had to go to the control panel and remove it from Add/Remove Program.
When that stopped working I had to reset/restore my browser.
Then I upgraded to Windows 10 in the hopes of getting rid of it and it worked for sometime.
This all started when I refused to renew my antivirus subscription, so I gave up today and purchased WebRoot. The box clearly states it protects against pop ups...
I am going to BestBuy tomorrow and discuss with the GeekSquad on what do do next.
