It's certainly not as active as it was when I joined... But, compared to some other places I've hung around, I wouldn't call it dead.

We're around... just not around often enough to make it possible to sit on here continuously like we used to.
Adulthood.
Adulthood.

Hey, hi, yo, welcome!
Things are definitely not as active as they once were around here.
I try to visit every couple of weeks to check in, but I usually don't have anything interesting to contribute or not much has changed since my last visit.

Back in the day if you posted a topic in Off-Topic it would be on page 2 by the end of the day. Now there are topics on page one that the last post was almost 9 months ago. So no you didn't join a dead forum, but you certainly didn't join an active one either!

Shit, it'd be on page 2 by the end of an hour.Calavera wrote:Back in the day if you posted a topic in Off-Topic it would be on page 2 by the end of the day. Message boards in general seem to be dying on the internet though. There are still a lot of very active ones, sure, but a lot of general discussion takes place on sites like Reddit now.

What's wrong with reddit?
I'm not a redditor really but there's lots of good discussion and content on there.

Thats true, I can remember posting a topic and then checking back in an hour or so to see the responses and be dissapointed that nobody replied and it was halfway down page 2.|darc| wrote:Shit, it'd be on page 2 by the end of an hour.Calavera wrote:Back in the day if you posted a topic in Off-Topic it would be on page 2 by the end of the day. Re: Did I join a dead forum?
Reddit has a lot of informative stuff on it, and all the sub-reddits for everything make reading about a subject that your interested in really great.
Whats BAD about reddit...well the layout of the commenting system is complete shit. Although it can be decently read as a 'thread' the indents and lack of seperating visual boxes make it a cluster f*ck.
Then theres the 'voting' system, i hate forums with those if they can be used to hide a comment by 'down-voting'. It just leads to bullying, and quashing dissenting opinions. Unpopular posts or even posts by users that the community doesn't like are downvoted because of petty personal emotions and herd mentality. (See: allakhazam.com)
Places like fark have a much better voting system.. you can't downvote people.. you can put them on 'ignore', or you can vote either 'smart' or 'funny' or not vote at all. The default is to show all posts, or you can set it to organize the thread by 'funniest' or smartest' if you choose to do so.
Its supposed to be used to self-moderate, but it always ends up being used as a tool to disenfranchise users that aren't on the right side of a quasi-power struggle.

Re: Did I join a dead forum?
We all got old, most of us got a bit more senile, just like my poor old dc all yellowing, suddenly bursting into life, and youth and power, next thing was erm, can't remember now, nope lost it.
I don't do reddit exactly, but you can get topics and news posts there before most forums, usually whats discussed on social networks (damn you all!)
But i'm not a regular any more anywhere, and only because life has stopped me, the good stuff as well as the bad.

Re: Did I join a dead forum?
I signed up 7 years ago. Even by then, very late to the punch.
Unlike a lot of the much younger, more active message boards I used to frequent in 2008, this place lives.
