Well schthack isnt gonna have a GC/XB server until those servers have died. One would assume that's because the servers are pay to play.

PC and DC have free homebrew servers

I have a question about the homebrew server (Dreamcast).

Should I buy version 1, version 2, or both?

I thought the permissions worked differently or something. Ver 2 was better but had to pay? or something to that effect, so i was wondering if the homebrew servers have the same limitations.

also, back in the days of the Sega DC PSO server, weren't the games useless online if purchased pre-owned because the systems were somehow identified and registered? that still the case with the homebrew server?

basically I am thinking about getting one or both used if I can play online.

Definintely get Version 2. Hardly anyone is online with version 1, and version one people can only join version 1 games. Version 2 people can join both PC, PSO v1 games, and PSO v2 games.

Wow, that was confusing. :o

Ironically the opposite is the case on the homebrew servers - you need a used serial to go online...(used serial = the preowner bought a "Hunter`s License" at least once)

doesnt matter, there is a "shared" serial number that you can use and get online. so no worries.

i dont know how much its legal, plus if you use a "shared" serial/access the homebrew server wont be able to identify you and youll probably get many bugs, also keep in mind the official server wont let 2 people use the same serial/access and if you get an original game already registered you can call sega to get a new access key.
