Opinions on Rez
Most of you will not have played this game, it's pretty hard to find, I don't even know if it was given a proper US release, but I've heard great things about it. I've also heard others criticise it for saying there isn't enough game there, and that it's too unusual for most tastes. One quote said "You'll either love it or hate it". So which camp do you lot fall into?
I'm going to jail for homicide.
Wish me luck.

Re: Opinions on Rez
I played it for a short time, and it just isn't my genre of game. I'm still a "Mario 64" kind of guy. I'm not big into RPG's, shootem' up's, or FPS games.Spector wrote:Most of you will not have played this game, it's pretty hard to find, I don't even know if it was given a proper US release, but I've heard great things about it. I was fortunate enough to get hold of Rez & found it to be quite enjoyable, ok it has the kind of mindless crap called music these days that I hate but as it fits the context of the game I overlook this shortcoming, its nice that Space Harrier lives on.

I haven't played the game to completion. Honestly, I just started playing it for the first time yesterday. However, it is the kind of game that I wouldn't expect to last a very long time, but it is just too much fun not to come back to it. I have never seen a game so vivid and spectacular before. It is only too bad that a game like this never came out in the arcades. It definitely pays its homage to the lineage of Space Harrier and Panzer Dragoon, but I really do not think that any game played before could have prepared me for the experience that Rez provided.

A really psychodelic shooter. Great graphics, they get better in the last stages. Too bad it's too short and too easy. It's not a bad game, but there are a lot of shooters in DC that are greater (Ikaruga, Gigawings 2, Border Down, Zero Gunner 2...).
Edit: There's also a PS2 version of REZ, so if you have a PS2 maybe it will be easier for you to find the PS2 one. Both versions are exactly the same.

Rez is an absolutely great game! And I don't think it's too short at all; a shooter ought to be able to played through in one sitting and Rez is just long enough for that. The replay value of a shooter comes not from the fact that it takes a long time to "beat," but from good old-fashioned replaying just because you love the game and want to see it again and see if you can do better. Rez excells there, too. And besides, there's just so many bonuses and special modes in Rez to fool arund with...Trancemission is my favorite bonus. Man, turn the lights out, put on your headphones, set the game to no damage and play through Trancemission for like an hour straight and you'll find yourself smewhere on that border between high and enlightened and near-death. Pretty amazing.
As for a game experience to compare it, too, I'd say that Tempest 2000 is certainly the closest I know of. Rez is better, though. Maybe Vib Ribbon at times, too (if only there had been some ambient non-game related visualizations to the music). Of course, I'm talking about the experience here, not the game itself. The game itself is just Panzer Dragoon pretty much, but it's the experience that makes the game stand out in my mind.

Don't think of them as Orcs. Think of them as XP with legs and axes.
