I have a problem with the Dreamsnes games that I have borrowed from a friend that he says work on the DC, but I read somewhere that these games only work with a DC made on or before a specific date. Is this true?
As far as I know, US Dreamcasts made after 1999 don't have MIL-CD support, so they can't read CD-Rs. So if you have one of these, you won't be able to play DreamSNES or any other Homebrew apps. Here's a page with more info: clicky.
Is it a US NTSC DC? None of the PAL Dreamcasts have said problem. If it's an NTSC one and works then, I dunno, maybe it really isn't a problem. I'm only reporting what I've read from the aforementioned site.
I have a september 2000 DC, and it plays all burned CD-R's perfect
<am i human or wolf, it is up to you to decide
If you come to me saying you've tried everything, that only tells me that you've tried my stuff also, and it didn't work. so no sense in me helping you. Plain & Simple
There may be a few that may not work as SEGA used three types of GD-ROM drives from different manufacturers. So far all I've tested work but if I find one that doesn't work. I wouldn't be surprised. As one Dreamcast I had would boot up NESTER and DREAMSNES but it would not boot up the UTOPIA to play IKARUGA. I'd say 95% work and 5% don't.
