Markdown for documentation?

Does anyone use Markdown (or a variant) for documentation? I've started seeing several projects with things like README.md in their documentation directories. Several corporations I know of are using it as well. I actually like the concept, although some of the ways that styling is done aren't the way I would write it.

Oddly enough, I didn't realize that Github used its own flavor of Markdown for user pages. Of course, I don't use Github; so, that may explain why I wasn't aware.
