GENESIS ON DC?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

First of all, you need a Sega Genesis emulator; get Genesis Plus DC.

Rename that file to GenisisPlusDC-gpwt-260706-BlackAura.sbi and then restart Selfboot Inducer. Sbi files must have a .sbi extension. Also, make sure that Windows is not hiding extensions for known filetypes.

Please check you CAPS LOCK key.

If the file C:/SBInducr/SBI/GenisisPlusDC-gpwt-260706-BlackAura.sbi exists, it should show up in the menu on the right-hand side of the Selfboot Inducer window. You will probably have to exit Selfboot Inducer and relaunch it so it will scan the Sbi directory again. If it still doesn't show up, double-check that Windows isn't appending a .zip file extension to the file or something like that. If the file is named anything.sbi, Selfboot Inducer will find it and display it in the right-hand menu.

To make sure that Windows isn't hiding file extensions, open your Sbi folder. At the top of that window should be a menu labeled 'Tools.' Under that menu, select 'Folder Options...' and then click on the tab labeled 'View.' There should be a box labeled 'Advanced Settings.' Scroll down the list until you see a checkbox labeled 'Hide extensions for known file types.' Make sure that box is unchecked. Then double-check that your Genesis Plus SBI file has the name you intended to give it. If Windows had been hiding file extensions, it probably also added the old extension to whatever name you typed in.

OK, I THOUGHT I HAD IT. MADE MY DISC. PUT IN DC.
1ST SCREEN SAYS SBIFFY.COM
2ND SAYS: SELFBOOT INDUCER ---- GENISISPLUSDC---BUILD 26/07/06 BY BLACKAURA

NOW IF ANY BUTTON OTHER THAN (A) OR (START), NOTHING HAPPENS.

IF (START) IS PRESSED, THE SCREEN GOES BLANK. DC HAS TO BE RESTARTED.

AFTETR REBOOT IF (A) IS PRESSED I GET THIS SCREEN:

[BUTTONS(X):6] [SOUNDS(Y):ON] [CPU(B):C68K] [VIDEO(A):SW] [MODE(L):USA]
PUNISHER
SONIC 1

Maybe you should try burning it with BootDreams. BootDreams is a free utility.
http://dchelp.dcemulation.com/?BootDreams

1. Download BootDreams and install it to e.g. C:/BootDreams/

2. Download the emulator/game/app you would like to burn and put it in a dedicated folder, e.g. C:/BootDreams/GenesisPlusDC/ .

The folder should already contain your roms and so on.

3. Now unzip/unrar your emulator/game/app into that same folder. The 1ST_READ.BIN contains the actual DC programme.

4. Start BootDreams and point it to C:/BootDreams/GenesisPlusDC/. It will then guide you trough the process. I recommend the 'CDRecord' method.

But please, stop that caps-lock.

That's the emulator's menu screen. Top line is the options - press the indicated button to change each option (press A to switch video mode, for example - SW is more accurate, but HW is faster). Select a game using up and down, and press start to play. To get back out of a game, hold L+R and press start.

  • Using Windws Explorer you'll find some tools within the C:/SBInducr/Inducer/gpwt/tools/ directory. Extract "provlist_by_burnerO.zip" and copy "Provlst.exe" to C:/SBInducr/Inducer/gpwt/data/ROMS/
  • Copy your ROMs (*.zip) in C:/SBInducr/Inducer/gpwt/data/ROMS/ and run Provlst.exe
  • Open ROMS.LST in Wordpad and replace ".SMC:" with ".ZIP " (space).
  • Save as 'ROMS.TXT' in C:/SBInducr/Inducer/gpwt/data/.
  • Right-click on your C:/SBInducr/Inducer/gpwt/data/ROMS/ folder and start Renamer
  • Click on 'Edit' -> 'Multi-Change' and replace "%a.SMC" with "%a.ZIP"
  • Click on 'A->B' to apply the changes and then close Renamer
