Basically, the DC uses an off the shelf DAC for it's audio, which makes it possible to know how to bypass it entirely and just output the digital audio.
You can do it as coax or TOSlink.

Re: Dreamcast digital audio mod
Does it make it sound a lot better? Anybody here ever tried it?Quzar wrote:Hadn't been posted here, so I figured I'd let ya'll know about it.

Re: Dreamcast digital audio mod
I've never seen it reported that anyone but it's creator has done it. It won't specifically make it sound better, but it will ensure that your sound system is getting identical sound to what the dreamcast is outputting. Also, the DC uses a fairly standard run of the mill DAC, where most sound systems (of people who would do this mod) probably have much better DACs in them.Calavera wrote:Does it make it sound a lot better? Re: Dreamcast digital audio mod
Which is entirely irrelevant - all that stuff happens long before the sound signal is sent to the DAC.RELIANTKCAR wrote:actually the dreamcast has a sound card 2 times more powerfull than the ps2 it has support for 64 vioces and the ps2 has half that. and the dreamcast sound card has 2 meg of sound buffer ram.....
