I downloaded IE7 and it messed me up bad... It started some typeface smoother for LCD monitors which they admit blurs the text on CRT's. So they let you adjust it. I did, no change. So then I disabled it, no change. Then I realised that it had actually changed all my typefaces, not just in IE. Now all my Windows and Firefox text were blurred as well. So I uninstalled it. No change. Finally I used System restore and am glad to say that it switched off.
However... it also messed up my connection and I had to reboot my modem before I could go online.
I wanted to like IE7 because at times I do fine Firefox a bit buggy, but I just couldn't.

I didn't find it in Control Panel, even though I did look. But I did know that's what it was - just forgot the name - and IE help told me I could turn it off from in IE.butters wrote:It probably enabled ClearType. You can turn it on or off in Control Panel --> Appearance --> Effects --> Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts --> ClearType
And is it really meant to affect all of your typefaces, even in other applications?
I may make a restore point and then try again using your advice.

Theres an online tuner at Microsoft's website that lets you play around with ClearType to make it look less blurry with your monitor
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cle ... Step1.aspx
Personally I still don't like it. The only benefit I can see is when it comes to italicized text, but normal text looks blurry.

I haven't updated to IE7, yet, but I've heard nothing but negative things from people who have. I believe the common theme behind most of the complaints I've heard is that IE7 messes up other parts of their system that have nothing to do with Internet browsing.
For instance, one of the guys I work with updated to IE7, and his scanner software was obsoleted immediately because of it. He had to download new scanner software that includes a lot of changes that make him uncomfortable.
He also pointed out, when he was using the Beta version of IE7, that apparently the newest version of WMP and the newest version of IE were incompatible.

Yay! I fixed my problem! It turns out it was an extension causing it. Tabbrowser preferences for some reason messed up the address bar, and a removal of it made my browser go back to normal. I used it because I didn't want to use beta software of Tab Mix Plus, but it looks like it turned out better than the alternative.

It's the default 1.5 theme converted for 2.0. I don't need all the visual effects, and it would be great if they would make a performance-based theme.

Thank you! I find the new theme to be really ugly.Egotistical EvilN wrote:https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3479/

This is the theme I'm currently using. I find it to be very attractive, very compact, and just a good all-around theme. It's supposedly a port of the default Netscape 8.1 theme, but I haven't used Netscape since v4, so I wouldn't know.melancholy wrote:Thank you! Same here. Well, one my laptop anyway.curt_grymala wrote:This is the theme I'm currently using.
The theme isn't really a port of the Netscape 8.1 theme - it doesn't look much like it at all. Except the icons, which look rather similar.

Has anyone noticed any extensions slowing down FF2.0? It might be a coincidence but I installed a couple and that night had a few speed issues. Gone now, np.
Also, FF seems to give up waiting for pages really quickly, can you change the timeout setting? </lazy>
