Broken snes... Help?

Post by Ominous 0nionfrog »

So i bought a snes from a local pawn shop about a week or two ago.. they said it would work.. but it doesnt.
The light on the system turns on and everything.. but all im getting on the tv is a black screen...
I havent opened it up yet because id need to go buy the special tool to open it...(btw, where might i go to cheaply buy one of these?)
But does anyone know what might be wrong...?
I'd really like to be able to get it to work so i can play the games i bought...

either http://www.goldenshop.com or http://www.liksang.com has the bits to open the console (or you could make a ghetto one from a bic pen) If either of those places are too expensive, try the usual ebay or I think http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com has them. I got mine from liksang. The screws on the console themselves are called external line head screws, and I don't recall how small they are.

but it sounds like it might just need a good cleaning with rubbing alcohol/water on both the carts and the thing were the carts are inserted. Or it could be that you're using an rf switch and it is f'ed up.

It cant be the rf switch because ive tried it with av cable too...
I just tried cleaning it like you said.. but it still doesnt work...
Maybe I'l open it up with the ghetto bic pen method...
and try to swap the cartridge port(If even possible) from my other broken snes onto this one... or something...
Oh well..
I got Pirates gold! and subterrania boxed today for $2 each for my genesis.. so maybe ill just play that for now..
