Headphone out for the DC?

Post by BuddyJ »

Is it possible to make a headphone out for the DC (So I could plug in my headphones and play at night without being loud)?

Thanks,

Some vga boxes have headphone out I think.
Or you could hook the dreamcast to pc speakers or a mixing table.
Or you must build some small amp and solder it to the dreamcast mobo.

Isn't there a VGA mod tut somewhere? you could just do the line out mod and leave the rest of the tut i guess.

in fact for headphones you need an amplificator, line out hasn't enough power.

Search for the pinouts, use an amp on a chip (i forget the IC name). Simple.

If you need pinouts, i wrote a VGA tut. over at dcemu.co.uk it has pics of nice places to solder to for various signals including sound.

It would be awesome if there was a tutorial with pictures. I looked at the tutorial at DCEmu.co.uk and I'm kinda lost when you talk about the amps and all that.

If anyone has the mod done, if you don't mind, I'd like to see some pictures.

and I don't understand anything from the VGA tut @ DevCast, I'm only 12 :(
Anybody know a simple way to build that headphone out :?:

Doesn't your TV have a headphone jack?

if you don't know anything about soldering (and at your age I think you don't), your best bet is to buy some cheap pc speakers with a headphone jack and rca jack input

hmm...but what would i connect those speakers to? my tv doesn't have an audio out, just loudspeakers built in and I don't know where i could get the audio signals other than that...

EDIT: My DC came with a cable like this:
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?catego ... ts_id=1443&

And not with a cable like that:
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?catego ... ucts_id=78&

SO there's no source to pull the audio signal from...

They're not, your right.

I'd like to know the big secret to getting this mod working with the amps and all that because I'd really like to do this mod.

Hell, if it can be explained clear enough, I'll make a tutorial as I go through the mod.

It's only like $3 or so for an RCA plug to headphone adapter... although finding a double female ended adapter would be a pain... and a headphone coupler would make it easier to damage the connectors... meh.

"amp on a chip" suck! I bought two, and had complete working prototypes. Only draw back... Distortion and hiss! i also used the double GAIN though, where you use a resistor and capactor to double the GAIN from like 24dB to 46db or something like that. It drove a speaker pretty well, except for the "BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" and "HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"
