Laziness
I will pay anyone a shiny quarter, if they would:
1) Run to the store and pick up:
Floppies
CDRs
Compressed Air
Lithium Grease
40GB ATA 100 HD
2) Completely dismantle my PC and:
Clean out the dust bunnies.
Regrease all the fans.
Install the new HD.
Reassemble everything.
Dual boot Win98/Win2k.
Install all of the latest drivers, patches, etc..
3) Take apart my 5 year old monitor, refocus and recalibrate the electron guns (its wacked out and text is getting really fuzzy).
4) Take all these junk parts I have laying around and build a linux box so I can tinker.
Oh yeah, it all needs to be done in the next three hours so I can get a little quake going before I go out tonight. So how about it? Any takers?

Just dont touch the yolk and you will be ok.404NotFound wrote:I wouldn't take apart the monitor... those things can shock you.
Seriously I have done it a few times before. Most monitors have little tiny potentiometers to adjust the the focus and voltage for each gun. Its a bit of hit and miss, but I was able to save two junkers this way.
[disclaimer_for_the_stupid] DO NOT take apart your monitor, especially if you dont know what the hell you are doing. [/disclaimer_for_the_stupid]

Bleh..
Im half way done and losing interest fast.
I bought a new 60GB Maxtor, a couple cans of compressed air, some lithium grease, and completly disassembled this mutha. There was so much dust and grime I had to strip it down to the bare frame put it in the bath tub. The power supply was nothing but a big dust ball, and the fans were so bad I'm suprised any of them even worked. Anyway, every thing is squeky clean, much quieter, and running smooth.
