Selfboot Inducer v4 Released

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Selfboot Inducer v4 Released

Post by burnerO »

Isn't it wonderfully ironic how anti-climatic releases are after you've put so much time into them? Consider this guy a public beta of sorts as always. If you're able to crash it, let me know, and I'll be happy to address any issues.

What's new eh?

-Complete code rewrite from scratch
-New gui that's not quite as cryptic, but still familiar
-Ability to customize disc contents (add/remove sbi)
-Readme files are displayed in the gui (no more rom dir hunting)
-Multi menu creation (Emus/Apps/Games/Demos)
-Single menu creation (All at once)
-Sbi2boot turns an sbi into plain files
-Consolevision Ip.bin logo replaced with a Sbiffy one
-No more forced Ip.bin logo (stored as Tools\Iplogo.mr)
-All included tools are updated to their latest versions
-A beautiful new default theme that Mikey242 and I teamed up on
-No silly format changes, all old files still work

And probably even more things that I can't think of offhand.

Neat. Now I need to download it, and work out how to clone it on Linux. I've still not managed to catch up to the last version (I had most of the functionality done, but no GUI).

My day is going to consist of sleep. I've had four hours of it in the past two days.

If you still need an incentive to download, check out the new theme:

Sounds great. If you need anything explained just let me know.

That could have been done with divx I suppose, but would have gotten old fast.

What you're going to want is Tools\Makesbi\Append.exe, which appends a readme to a sbi for use with the gui. It's pretty straightforward: select a sbi, then select a readme.

Also, much credit needs to go in Curt's direction for his guidance, as well as just listening to me ramble on a daily basis.

I tried to get in most of what everyone had suggested within reason over the past year that the last version was in circulation (geeze...).

Mikey I loved your contest entry the orange and white one, with sonic on top and a blank dreamcast, could you please send me the templates you used to make that I would be most appreciative.
Also mad props to anyone who has made sbis, and of course the creators thanks

@mogorman - just to let you know, I will be turning all of the contest entries into SBT's in the next week, and uploading them to the Sbiffy! database after I test them out. There were some great submissions, including Mikey's original, and VampiricS' second.

I just tried it out. I burnt the a single menu disc, with 2 games on it through the CDRecord method, and the Sbiffy logo didn't show up.

Although the new theme look great, the screenshot box is a little small, eh?
