how about a dart game ? something 2 people can play. or a tetris style game like puzzle fighter, that would be good. or a good bomberman clone, i know we have one already but still. or a bowling game.
How many more people do the Radical Islamic Subhuman Cockroaches have to kill before people realize they need to be taken out ?

Clones - yes, provided they don't use any graphics, sounds, or music from commercial games.nobody in particular wrote:Incidentally, would clones and/or expansions of existing games be considered valid entries?
As a side note, the official page for the contest is now up.
I have set up a paypal donate button at the bottom of the page, if you wish to donate to the contest. I'll keep everyone informed of the donations as they come in. Hopefully the cash prize will be a little bit more enticing compared to the main prize. If enough donations are made, second and third place entries could be awarded as well.
I am also going to contact some companies to see if they could donate accessories, etc. to the contest as well.

I have two questions about this topic:
1- Can we use pre-existing graphics engines to program this game? I would love to be able to the Iris 3d graphics engine , or make this game a quake mod , but that just does not seem fair. I doubt that some one would put forth the effort to make a graphics engine better than those for this contest.
2- Where does the profit of the sales of this game go? if there is a profit, does the programming team get any of it, or will it all go back in to the community?
But hey, this sounds fun, you might just see something worthwhile from me

Yes, each person in the team gets a pressed CD, their equal amount of the cash prize, as well as their equal amount of the cash earned from sales of the game.Fragger wrote:How will the prizes be given if a team (not a single person) wins? Each one will receive a pressed CD and the cash will be divided between them?
Of course, the Iris3D engine is alright to use for the contest, as is SDL, etc. As for Quake - no.Chuck D. Head wrote:1- Can we use pre-existing graphics engines to program this game? The programming team gets all of the profit, divided among the team members equally - minus the cost of the CDs and packaging plus 5% for merchant costs, etc. It's not as bad as it sounds, the CDs and packaging will be done in bulk, so it'll be pretty cheap. Roughly $2-$4 will be taken out, the rest of the profit goes to the team based on the amount they wish to have the game sell.Chuck D.
