Am I reading correctly? A ready-to-play Dreamcast disc image of Cave Story?
If so, this is newsworthy. Care to write it up with a few screenshots and a brief description?

Re: NXEngine for DC
Welcome to the forums!
That's probably the best entrance I've seen in a while... "Hi, I'm new. Oh, by the way, here's a way to play Cave Story on your Dreamcast."

Re: NXEngine for DC
I was able to get it to load with the SD Adapter however once you get the gun and get to the door with eye you are able to destroy it but once you enter it the screen goes black and the level won't load.
btw I have a video of the game available if you guys care to check it out.

Hi DCeric, nice to see you. Welcome to DCEmulation.
- does the issue you reported happen only on SD card or on CD-R too ?

Re: NXEngine for DC
I have no disks so I'm unsure if this issue happens with a CD-R. Also it seems the SD Card that Cave Story was on was at the end of its legs so i'm not sure if the issues related were do to that. Thanks for the welcome Christopheruserloeser.
Re: NXEngine for DC
I am the user formerly known as darkschneider. I used to be on dcemulation forums back in the 2001-2005 timeframe. I can't remember what email was tied to my account though, or what my old password was, hence the clever new name.
Anyway, I just happened upon this happy news of the nxengine/cave story port last week and I think this is really awesome. I have extensively played the CDI from C.U.L. in this thread, on CD-R the game has not crashed for me at all (I'm several hours in, well past where the SD card test crashed).
The game runs perfectly with music turned off, but with it turned on, there is some slight lag and frame loss (and music skips) which gets in the way of the more reflex driven boss fights/platform jumping. I hope there is a way to get this last little bit perfect, as the port is really very impressive and practically 100%!
I've gone ahead and shared the news of this on some other forums and it has been greeted with enthusiasm.
Here is a reddit thread even.

Re: NXEngine for DC
Excellent! Really excited to try this out!
Can anyone do me a favor and create a CDI? I'll spread the word across other DC websites when there is another simple download for people.
btw: fan created covers, etc.

Re: NXEngine for DC
Thank you! I just gave it a test play and a lot of the previous bugs are gone. This version is a great improvement!
I still get gameplay hiccups though. While the music plays smoothly and no longer skips, the gameplay (character and monster movement and projectiles) will pause for an instant about every 3 seconds (regardless of whether you are running, jumping, shooting). This gameplay hiccup is pretty frequent and noticeable. I tested in a couple different parts of the game, and it seemed to happen in a variety of different levels, large and small, and with different background musics playing... so I don't know if it's a RAM issue? I am playing on a VGA monitor, though I'm not sure this would impact things.
This gameplay hiccup only happens when music is turned on.

Yep, maybe histat is a newbie at the forums, but guys he also did the emus Neko II and X Millenium hehe . An amazing work, congrats!!!
I've got a question: we (the spaniards at dreamcast.es) want to apply an spanish patch to translate Cave Story. Is that possible using the Dreamcast port? If so, how can we do it?
Regards,
Indiket.

Re: NXEngine for DC
Hello!
I burned the 07/03 version of Dreamcast Cave Story and was able to play the game to completion. But I encountered a few bugs:
-The Dreamcast resets 2-3 seconds into the end credits, making it impossible to see the ending
-For some reason, Cave Story creates multiple save files on the VMU that serve no purpose other than to take up space. These files usually are rep#.dat (like rep6, etc). Deleting these files and leaving just profile.dat and settings.dat doesn't alter Cave Story's performance, nor your game progress... so why is it taking up 100 blocks of VMU space?
By the way: this is the very first time I've played Cave Story, so thank you for porting it histat!

Re: NXEngine for DC
Wow, I can't believe I hadn't heard of this game yet. Pretty fun stuff. I also noticed the weird save file thing. It definately filled up one vmu and overflowed into the (thankfully) less full second vmu. Still a very fun game! nice job!
Also, I didn't get the sdiso to work, although I'm not sure if I downloaded the one that was uploaded here or from some other site...
