Coders Cable?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Coders Cable?

Post by speewave »

Anyone know a place to find one? (preferably US or somewhere with cheap \free shipping) are there new ones being made?

I've seen the new SD adapters, so i figured since there is a lot of new connectosr that was made to fit the DCs serial port or something that already exists that fits as a Serial plug instead of trying to find a NeoGeo pocket to DC cable (like all the older articles all say for DIY cables)

i don't want to solder direct to the motherboard (i'm good with solder, but i'd rather not ruin a good thing)

Thanks in advance!

That's actually not a terribly bad price for them. Considering that when I bought one back in the day, it was about US$30 or so, and that was several years ago.

Now, if only there was a place to get one in the US for around that price, I'd probably be all over it (considering both of the ones I bought long ago have long since broke). :?

My attempts to do so only generally make matters worse.

i'm not sure how they are so rare, the hardest part i think to the whole process is the DC Serial connector, and it seems that the producers of the SD Adapters found away around that... and with sites like batchPCB, it's easy to make a simple PCB for the coders cable and buy the parts... (parts themselves costing ~20 USD, save your self a trip by getting things from Mouser or Digikey)

wonder if they could make coders cables, or if anything how to make the connectors for the Serial Port

The connectors used by the SD cables are from a specific (older) cell phone data cable, if I recall correctly. They basically chop them off the end of that data cable, and solder to the connector.
