Songs Around the World: Stand By Me

Post by DaMadFiddler »

Saw this last night; it's pretty cool. A charity group traveled to see different street performers around the world, and had them all record a song in sync to a master track. Then, they took all the different performances, and mixed them into a single recording.

They did this with several songs, and they're selling the results on CD and DVD (and via MP3 download--also available on iTunes) at PlayingForChange.com.

I heard this album a few nights ago. Cool idea. Some of it sounds alright.

Cool idea. Executed poorly and corny as shit, in my opinion. It just falls flat.

I agree. A great project, but I personally think re-arranged cover versions of more popular songs from different genres would've been a better choice than fairly bland renditions of "inspirational/peace" songs. To be honset, I don't really want to listen to these songs in the first place as it's not really my taste, but even if I did, there's no reason for me to want to listen to any of these songs over the originals.

I've always regarded you as my across-the-pond brotha, baby.
