Hypertension [2011 Gameplay Trailer footage]
Hey guys,
I've been working on a stand-alone game inspired around Blood and it's sequel for quite awhile called Hypertension, and I feel the team and I have enough progress to show off some stuff. It's being built for EDGE, and it's also being ported for the Dreamcast and PSP (the Dreamcast version being a little separated at the core). I'd post screenshots here but they are a bit big - there are plenty of them at ModDB though!
The game is a little different from Blood, in the sense that there are now two characters instead of one, and we're adding cutscenes in the form of "graphic novels", live-action combined with stop-motion animation. The sprites are being built and digitized the old school way. A lot of the graphics itself are from Blood and Blood II as well, but we're changing the overall storyline to reflect original touches that we've brought (for instance, we've implemented a full RPG-like dialogue system).
The gameplay will be pretty different from Doom, actually a little different from Blood, because the two main characters will have different styles, one being paranormal based and one action-based. It's a bit hard to explain, though.
We're planning on releasing a sort of beta next month, so I just wanted to let you guys know about it. We have a blog site to keep up on progress, also here. Just keep up with it because it is a definite Dreamcast release.

Re: Hypertension
Working on it. We're planning to release an alpha version here very soon, which will come with a Dreamcast ISO.
We're using the same tech (DreamEDGE) but we forked and several things that were missing from that are working in our version.

Hey, sorry for double-posting.
Here's a gameplay video of the latest alpha. It's running on PC but the dreamcast version is very similar, minus the 3d models.

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
looks very nice. I'll be looking forward to this. I love old school shooters.....you know....ones where you actually have health in them.

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
Thanks everyone, I'm glad you are enjoying the material!
Since I'm here and finally released something, I'll ask a few questions. Do you guys mind using a controller when it comes to DC shooters, or is it just easier to use the keyboard/mouse?

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
Personally I'd prefer to use the controller with Quake 3 style controls, but I might be a minority.

Cool, we have the style set very similar to that. One thing I'm very curious about is VMU programming in conjuction with the port. .

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
If there's no controller support, there's no way for me to play

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
No worries - there's controller support. I was just thinking of maybe adding in keyboard/mouse support too. But I guess if you wanted that you could just play the PC version.

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
There definitely should be optional keyboard/mouse support, otherwise you'll probably get some serious flak from the keyboard/mouse fraktion, which would be the majority of all FPS players I think.

Re: Hypertension [gameplay footage released!]
From the official site:
Alright, so things are going...sorta okay fine. The meeting didn't go well unfortunately, just bad timing. We did get some members up to speed with the SVN stuff so that's good, hopefully the next one won't be so confusing.
In other news, Apple Macintosh binaries were released for EDGE not too long ago - this means an eventual Mac port of Hyper3dge. Eventual... because we are still working on all of them right now.
Really tired, here's a kinda-new-not-really shot of lighting effects that Joppu was able to pull off that we integrated into a level. We're really planning on expanding this tenfold, but for now at least you can see that this adds a bit of depth. If you can notice.
The real good looking stuff is still in quarantine until we decide it'll roll your heads. =)

Official Site
The ModDB site was deactivated a long time ago.
We also have a Sega.com thread going which is semi active at times.
