^ This

Though my only caveat has nothing to do with Microsoft, but my laptop's video card driver isn't the best in Windows 7. Oh sure, it'll run the OS well, and can run games with no problems. But the second I watch a video, boom, instant crash.

Other than that, though, I'm buying 7 the day it's released.

Funny you mentioned it, because I just noticed that too.

I installed it on a second partition. It's cool, but I can't get my audio drivers working right, instead of getting surround sound I only get sound out of my front speakers. I'll most likely get it when it comes out.

From my time with it, it seems much more stable... but then again I never really had problems with Vista either. My only problems come from when I need to run a program that only runs on XP, but that's rare anyway and Windows 7 probably wouldn't fix it.

I have yet to try this, but I want to know why this OS is not going to be 64bit only. It's about damn time don't you think?

uhh... no? My MacBook is 32-bit and would run a 32-bit Windows 7 fine. Why would they make it 64-bit only?
It's thinking...

There are still a lot of 32-bit systems out there (especially laptops and netbook/UMPC stuff), and in most applications long mode only offers a minor performance boost, if any. The only really compelling reason to run a 64-bit OS is if you need lots of RAM.

I gave this a whirl. I'm liking it. Everything seems to be working as it should. Sound is fine, video is fine. No conflicts so far.

Because you cheap 32-bit fuckers need to realize it's 2009 and get a proper processor.

The problem with Macbooks is, the plastic they use is a little too smooth on the fingers.

The problem with the Dreamcast is 99% of the population felt they were too inferior to own such an amazing machine.

In college, my friend Chris was dating this obnoxious, self absorbed know-it-all named Jenny. Jenny had a habit of trying to lecture people on things they had a better knowledge of than she did. My college roommates (most of whom were tech-savvy gamers) were actually sitting around one day talking about the Dreamcast, after a bout of PowerStone. And of course, Jenny (whose gaming experience consisted almost wholly of The Sims and Animal Crossing) had an expert opinion as to why it failed:

[paraphrased, as this conversation happened four years ago]

"Well, the Dreamcast was the first system where the enemies actually used AI. It was the first one where the characters in the game could use strategy and react to you, instead of just following patterns like before, because the Dreamcast was the first system that had AI built in. That's what those 'It's Thinking' ads were about. And I think maybe that worried some people, because they didn't like the idea of their toys having AI chips. Too much of a Terminator scare-factor. Plus, you know, smart enemies make games too hard."

I rarely agree with you DMF, but these are wise words and I think you've really hit the nail on the head here. While I always encourage companies to push technological limits, there is a point that is "too far", and it's a line that Sega unfortunately crossed to try and get a firm grip back on the videogames market. To Sega, "Shenmue" was a hit videogame masterpiece. To the public, it was like having a tiny little Japanese town living under their TV. The idea that Tom may still be selling hotdogs while you sleep was kinda scary.
