Fuck you Jurai for trying to steal the love
Disappointing. All this time waiting, and what comes up? It really is just an engine test, a very early prototype: a tiny stage with no enemies or hazards. It's not even fully 3D. Unless you are into protos, pass this one and play Sonic Jam instead.

Sorry, |darc|... kudos for helping it get released, and glad that you're happy with it... but there's about nothing to do in that proto. It's really a pity that it is not the "eyefish camera" one. Now that looked awesome. And it's unlike any other game I've ever seen! Too bad none of the people who may own a copy are willing to share it...
Still hoping for Project S or the 32X proto.

So where exactly does this fall in development, then? Is it an extremely early prototype before they scrapped the traditional 3D for the 'fisheye' camera, or did it happen the other way around?

From the screenshot, it looks like it may be from the very early incarnation where they were using the NiGHTS engine. They switched tracks after Yuji Naka threw a temper tantrum about it

BOSS engine. This was used to pitch the game to SEGA, later on they used the fisheye and all the videos floating around are from a VHS tape of the PC version. Don't quote me on it but I find it unlikely that there even was a consolidated Saturn version in any compilable form.

This would have been a sweet game to have for the Saturn/PC but can't always have your cake and eat it too. This music is now stuck in my head though, thanks a lot.
There's a prototype for the Genesis, Sonic Crackers, that clearly is the root of Knuckles Chaotix. How come no one realized, that early in the developement, how awful this game would be?!
