Greatest platformer Ive ever seen.

I have never seen more original game design in my life. Why this never beat out Super Mario Bros. is beyond me. I had to slap myself to comprehend the originality displayed by this incredible, amazing game.

Not only that, but the ending is simply astounding.
There is some seriously profound, philosophical meaning and deep internal struggle contained within that ending. I thought I have seen it all when I watched the ending of Evangelion, but now I know I was wrong.

Read up on the story of the game, it's fairly interesting- Nintendo sued them if I recall.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if the C64 came out before the NES or not hence the confusion.not just souLLy now wrote:I figured he was being sarcastic from what the video posted but agreed what was actually typed isn't clearfackue wrote:I can't make out if you're being serious or not.Eckostyle wrote:http://youtube.com/watch?v=NkK9tFnsqAY

Re: Greatest platformer Ive ever seen.
Wasn't that the game that supposedly Nintendo copied in order to make Super Mario Bros? I remember one time somebody posting about that here. There was that game and another C64 game that was exactly like the original Metroid?

I seriously had no idea what was going on in several parts of that video. What was with all the weird death/level jump things?

They looked to be secret blocks that you can still go onto the next level if you died?

I was thinking maybe the player died and loaded a save state. Either that or they just cut out the parts where they died.

By the looks of it, in some of the levels, if you land on a certain fish it will advance several stages ahead (much like the warp zone in Super Mario Bros.).DaMadFiddler wrote:I seriously had no idea what was going on in several parts of that video. Oh, and that music was too terrible for words to describe. Half the time I couldn't make out a melody.

It goes to a new level when he dies though.Luriden wrote:I was thinking maybe the player died and loaded a save state. Either that or they just cut out the parts where they died.
I think I remember seeing the player fall through a hole, it didn't even touch a fish.TyBO wrote:By the looks of it, in some of the levels, if you land on a certain fish it will advance several stages ahead (much like the warp zone in Super Mario Bros.).

Re: Greatest platformer Ive ever seen.
Trainerific! who knew of the hidden headbut attack that seems to kill all known flying enemies dead though I prefer the Amiga version and am hoping that the unreleased Speccy version surfaces at that some point
theres no-one else to blameThe Prisoner - Makes NGE's ending look almost intelligible.

There was a fully-functional preview release of this a few years ago.Christuserloeser wrote:There's a remake coming to Dreamcast, GP32, GPX2, and other platforms:

Looks like they've completely changed the visual style since then, though.

Unlike Mario, she doesn't bounce when she jumps on the enemies. This problem alone kills the gameplay.

How anyone can claim that that game is better than Super Mario Bros. I'll never know.
