Any Game Gear gurus out there?

I was browsing at the EB the other day and I found a game gear cart (Riddick Bowe Boxing) mixed in with the used GBA games. I grabbed it immediatley because it's been a while since I blew the dust off of the old GG.

Then I thought of researching my beloved handheld and I'm having trouble finding stuff out about it. Every website I found had virtually the same article (basic info, Game Boy won) but I am more interested in some modification and repair advice. I have a button that is sticking and some scratches I would like to repair and I really don't want to start taking it apart until I know what I'm getting into.

Mainly though I want to get the TV tuner but mine is one of the later models that did not support it. What did sega do to make them incompatible? Is there is a way of undoing it?

Sega made later models incompatible because it violated FCC regulations or something...
