Aged beef

Post by Roofus »

Twenty-year-old Irish beef that may have been making its way to the processed food industry has been impounded in Bulgaria, which is toughening up food safety standards under pressure from the European Union.

Three truckloads containing 75 tons of discolored meat was blocked at Bulgaria?s southwest border with Greece last month because its papers were suspect.

?The Irish veterinary service has confirmed the beef is around 20 years old,? Agriculture Ministry spokeswoman Margarita Kozhuharova said on Friday.

Bulgarian media have reported that meat producers import old meat to use in salami and other processed food.

However, this particular load of bluish-purple-tinged beef is unlikely to find its way to the dinner table. The Agriculture Ministry said it would probably burn it.

LOL Hmmm, blue meat, I wonder if that tastes good. Why would they even try to transport that to a processing facility; you think they's have the idea if it was 20 years old.

Is that supposed to be a rhetorical question? :rumpshaker:

Honestly aged beef is good. Dry aged meat goes for about 3x the price of regular.

How do you know that no one has done this before, and that people have unknowingly consumed it?

I don't. But that kind of thing is what these inspections are for.

Besides, if someone unknowingly consumed it and suffered no ill effects, what's the harm?

Beef will last between 1-3 months in a freezer and still be fine.
