My dad's shop was flooded in the hurricane, so obviously there was damage there too. Over the last week or so my cousin Danny and I have been going through the shop cleaning it out, and ripping the place down to cement and studs. Now, my dad had tools and supplies sitting on grocery store style shelves that he bought from a local grocery store that went out of business a few years ago. Anyway, Danny gets on a ladder and begins to go through things at the top left shelf. Then he goes, "Holy crap dude, porn!" and hands me a tape that had "XXXX" written on it. I laughed it off, because of the type of person my mom is. She's very self conscious and considering there was no TV at my dad's shop he'd have no place to watch it anyway. But then he starts handing me more videos, this time ones with real labels saying things like "Sex Starved Fuck Sluts: Outdoor Fuck Fest" and "Amateur Nights." I was surprised, but I know my dad is human after all so I wasn't fucking stoked or anything. I looked at the dates on them and the latest said 1999. His shop was built in 2000 so they could have just been sitting up there for that long. I put them off to the side and when my dad came to check up on us later on, I asked him "Hey, do you want those sex starved fuck sluts?" and he laughs and blushes a bit, and tells me that my mom knows about some of them but doesn't know they still exist and that I have to throw them away immediatly. So we did.
So anyway, the next day my dad drops us off again, and as he pulls away I look at Danny and he's squatting against the back wall. I wonder what he's doing there in an awkward position like that, so I go to him he's looking at porn magazines. When I wasn't around my dad told Danny that porn magazines were hidden behind the insulation back there and that he had to get rid of them without letting me see them. The dates on them were from this year. I was surprised again, but still not stoked. We looked through them for about 15 mins then tossed them out.
We got most of the shop done, but then we had to work on the one room in there--the bathroom. Danny gets up on a ladder and begins to take things out of the cabinet. He hands me sopping wet rolls of toilet paper so I can toss them into the trash cart. Then he goes "Holy shit dude. Weed..." and pulls out a ziplock bag with leaves and rolling papers in it. My dad used to smoke cigarettes so I instictively think "No way, that must be tobacco he has been casually doing on the side." I couldn't see the bag from where I was standing so Danny takes out a lighter and lights part of it and the room fills with the smell of marijuana.
My dad smokes pot. He had two bags in there, totalling to about a dimebag's worth.
Danny took the pot... I would've taken it but it was underwater in that nasty water and it looked like it was pretty old. But it brings up so many questions... Does my mom know? Was it good stuff? Where does he get it from?
Jeez... and one day a few months ago we got on the subject of drugs and he said he never has smoked pot once in his life (not that I believed him on that, knowing his rebellious past)....
