..weee...noNOOOO...O DEAR GOD!
ok i just got my third dreamcast in the mail today it came with some great games some controllers a vmu a memory/rumble card and i turned it on without a game and checked all the memory cards and reformatted my old one. when i went to put in a game it sounded like it spun really fast but wouldnt load anything always going back to the bios screen every game i had and the games i got with it. after one game it sounded really slow. i looked to see if the laser was dirty and it was clean. then i moved the thing that the laser slides along the rail on well it stayed where i put it. so i have pinpointed my problem. does anyone know of a fix for this other than gdrom replacement. my other two dreamcast where drastically destroyed by household members.i really wanna play my new copy of shenmue please help!

i'd say take one of the gd roms out of the other dreamcasts and put it in the "new" one. that is if the gdroms from one of the other ones works.
sorry didnt see the "other than replacement" thing. i'd suggest completely taking the thing apart and giving it a good cleaning. you'd be suprised the results you can get with just a good cleaning. while you're cleaning you should check all of the connections. ribbon cable to controller board, ribbon cable to gdrom board, fan connection, gd rom connection to main board, psu pins, and with the ribbons to clean them just use a pencil eraser.
my dis-assembly guide.
^Just incase you dont know how to take it apart

well thanks for the help but i already have cleaned the whole thing and checked the plugs did that a while ago actually by the looks of it, it was bought this way new theres no dust anywhere even in the fan and the case is really bright white.
ok anyways i have singled it down to the culprit and right now im waiting for my dad to bring me home some lube to fix it.
yea whos a loser who goes crieng to his daddy when things go bad yea..thats me
well it is a plastic gear that touches the little motor that moves the laser assembly up and down it is really hard to move
the motor works perfectly as does everything else

Anyway, you should check the ingredients of swedish fish. Last time I checked, they had carnauba wax. I used to use carnauba wax on my car, before I switched to a synthetic wax. Not that it stopped me from buying and eating them, mind you.
