I never actually played the game while it was current. I originally played Mario RPG when it came out on Virtual Console, and then again last year when a friend sold me his cartridge.
I never liked JRPGs as a kid, and didn't really warm to the genre until college. I ended up getting really sick and spending a week in bed in 2003; I'd recently bought a Dreamcast with a few games and accessories on eBay, and one of the games it came with happened to be Grandia II. When I got sick, it was the only one of my games I hadn't beaten yet... and I didn't really have the energy for the sort of reflex-based platformers and action games I normally played anyway. So, I gave it a shot.
Funny story: I didn't realize you could swap the mana eggs around OR upgrade the spells and special moves until over halfway through the game. Compared to what I'd been doing, the game felt like a cakewalk after that
As for new purchases:
Runbow (Wii U)
Undertale (Mac)
and...
Darkwing Duck (NES)
It's been on my list for quite a while, and I finally found a copy at an acceptable price. I'm nearly done with my NES list, with a few ultra-rarities that I don't ever expect to find at a price I'm willing to pay. I'll probably move on to the Genesis next, since most of the stuff left on my SNES list is too expensive.
