dcemu seti@home group

Post by butters »

I did a quick forums search for a dcemu seti group and, seeing none, made my own. The group is http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stat ... 87675.html

reasons why seti@home is bad:

1) You put yourself directly at risk of alien memetic attack.
Don't laugh, it might happen.

2) More people use it than that cancer at home thing.
Sheesh, that's your average internet users priority system right there.

3) If there's alien intelligence out there technologically superior to us, they don't want to know about us as a race.
Frankly, I don't blame them.

4) If there's aline intelligence out there technologically inferior to us, I think we all know we're just gonna bomb shit out of them and steal whatever they have to offer in the name of colonisation.

edit: 5) you open up a bunch of ports and cpu processing power to do the governments job for it - woo!

I think the reason that SETI@home is used more than the Cancer version is simply because that SETI@home has a nicer output of data - at least it did the last time I checked. I currently run nothing along this vein.

I would use a cancer thingy if one existed for the operating system I choose to use. I have seti running in the background in Linux with a niceness of 19, meaning anything else that wants to use the processor gets first priority.

The first time you ran the client it asks for some basic info from you and you have an account from that point.

6) It costs me money. Why use software which causes a 45W AMD to run at full load all day? :?

7) I've only got 210KJ between charges, I want to make damn sure none goes to waste.
