This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Dreamcast MP3 Players (STRAT76)

Post by MagnetoMan »

hey! after hearing about DC ability to play MP3's i almost wet my drawers. Finally!! i dont have to keep switching my cd collection around, or waste money on a 100 CD shuffler... or mp3 player for that matter!!

SO... after looking around for an appropriate DC mp3 player, i have come across the ..STRAT76..
i was most impressed with it's shuffle feature, and the fact that it's free!

but i still have a few questions...

i've read that you have to burn the strat porgram on each cd. can i still put a cd that has mp3's and the strat program into my PC drive and pull off mp3's for use with WINAMP??? How user friendly is the interface?? where can i download it??

I'm rather excited about this program. I was just at this site...
http://denvervideogames.tripod.com/game ... /id14.html
which reffered me to DCemulation.com (-great site by the way folks! :D ) but i looked all around and can't find STRAT76 anywhere.

if anyone has any information on this program, ie: how well it works or where i can download it, please feel free to email me at etch@graffiti.net or just post a reply on here.

Thanks a lot for you're time guys/gals. keep on Dreamin'. Peace

Actually, you're probably better off with DreamAmp. You won't have to burn the program on every disc, an it's an excellent piece of software. Finding it, however, won't be very easy. It's not on sites much.
It's thinking...

Yes you can still play the files on a PC just like you could if it was just a disc with a bunch of MP3's on it. In fact I use some older DCMP3 disks on my DVD player now (I would rather not mess with DCMP3 anymore personally, since the DVD player is hooked into my system~).
How user friendly is the interface??
It's real easy, it's like Windows without the windows.
where can i download it??
Strange DCEMU has a link to "DCMP3" but it is some other wierd player I have never heard of. I can mail it to you if you like, or better yet I can upload it somewhere (it's freeware  ). Hope that helped.

I take it the reason it's illegal is because of the WinCE libraries it uses?

Ok I uploaded it somewhere but I'll just PM the guy the address (if it's illegal). And I know I'm not the only one that has/uses it (or did at one time).

I have a question about any of the mp3 players, do any of them support pre-made playlists (i burn them on the cd with the tracks)? so i can have a playlist for each album/soundtrack?

What do you mean another player? All I got was DCMP3 from that link.

As far as I have seen, it isn't illegal. Not to mention that is is on this site (without the WinCE files), and even if it were not you could still easily find it.
Oh, no. NO! You can't do this to me. Don't give me a playstation. NOOOOOOOOOO! I don't want a piece of crap. Take it back and burn it to heeelll!!! Die Sony Computer Entertainment with you PS (Piece of Sh?t) and your PS 2 (Piece of Sh?t?2)

it is based on mpg123 but it includes no source.
mpg123 was released under 2 licenses
one which requires full source disclosure
and one which requires you not to touch the source.
