are chex quest 2 and 3 wads supported by any homebrew ?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Nope, not yet. But I think BlackAura is working on it.

Chex Quest was open source?

Or was it really just a Doom mod?

The stand-alone Chex Quest DC was made by me, and it was basically a hack of crt0's DoomDC. Basically, I stripped out the entity definitions from Chex Quest, and pasted them into DoomDC (in the same way that the original DeHacked patches DOOM.EXE).

Chex Quest 1 works on nxDoom using a DeHacked file developed by a couple of people, mostly myself and XDelusion. It's actually closer under nxDoom than it is under the stand-alone Chex Quest DC.

You can get Chex Quest 2 and 3 working under nxDoom. You create separate modlist entries for them, using the original, unmodified Chex Quest WAD file, and with Chex Quest 2 or 3 added as an extra WAD file:

Code: Select all

Chex Quest,chexquest.wad,,Chex Quest 1
Chex Quest 2,chexquest.wad,-file chexquest2.wad,Chex Quest 2
Chex Quest 3,chexquest.wad,-file chexquest3.wad,Chex Quest 3
The Chex Quest WAD on my site has all of the files from the original Doom removed, it about half the size, and won't work with this method because it acts like the shareware version.

I guess I was wrong.

BlackAura, how can I get the Chex Quest music working under nxDoom?

You can't very easily - you have to convert them from MUS to MIDI, and then from MIDI to XM/IT/S3M/MOD format.

I've not got my MIDI->XM converter set up at the moment (and it took me three days last time), so I can't convert them right now. I tried once before, but a couple of the songs crashed the converter.
