Yes i do realise that, the new ram only works on new motherboards.
I only learned reasently that some old motherboards cant take ram with only 4 chips, do research before you get any more ram for your comp.

Hewlett Packard Pavilion 7850
Here are the specs as bought

Changes I have made...
Upgraded RAM to 512 mb
Removed crappy Winmodem
Changed installed OSs...
- 16 MB XOSL Partition
- 30 GB Windows XP Partition
- 5 GB Windows Me Partition
- 5 GB Red Hat Linux Partition(s)
Installed a new ethernet card and gave old one to sister (the newer one came with drivers for older Windows OSs so I swapped it with her)
Installed an ATI Rage 128Pro
Hewlett Packard Pavilion mx70 monitor
It's thinking...

No! Keep away from the Soundblasters! They produce noise and hiss. I have the same card you "want", and hooked up to my reference audio system, I can hear it sounds like crap.
Get a Turtle beach a Yamaha instead, if you want crystal sound. :)

The new, 3rd gen I believe, Live cards don't seem to hiss as much as the older versions (they also seem to get along slightly better with VIA chipsets, yay  ) as my friend has got one hooked upto his music studio and it sounds pretty sweet.

I've had no problem with the Live 5.1 I just bought, and I'm running 4-speaker surround sound split out to eight speakers. Haven't heard any hiss or anything like that.

Apparently there is no noticeable hiss on any of his inputs or outputs (using relatively high-end audio equipment) and I cannot hear any noise using my Live and speaker setup either. They still get a bit bitchy / noisy on the PCI interface though

My friend still has his 5.1 on his comp, and I can't hear any noise or hiss. Also, I'm buying this card off of him, and I think it'll be better than my AC97, especially considering it's costing me $30 CDN.

Besides the hiss it's a good card. and dirt cheap. :D

The thing is you can't hear it with computer speakers or mid-end setups.
And obviously this has been fixed (or something) in the later revisions...
