The PERN project - C++ compiler?

Post by Soilwork »

Hi,
I'm still looking for a way to compile C++ for Dreamcast under Windows, I know there was a module for Visual C++ on the Pern Project website but obviously the site is down, I couldn't get there for a while now. Does any one know if there is another place where I could find the tools for Visual C++?
Or if you knew a way to get G++ compiled under Cygwin and if you can tell me how to do that (knowing that it didnt work with hangar-eleven tutorial nor with the script given by someone a few days ago on these message boards)
Please reply.. Thanks a lot
++

Again...

Post by Soilwork »

I tried another script today (from: http://stalin.thegypsy.com/bscript.shtml ), but unfortunately I still don't have any G++ :( This is the error I have at the end of my log file :
checking for shl_load in -ldld... no
eval: Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable
configure: error: libtool configure failed
make: *** [configure-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 1
I remember I had the same sort of error (fork) with another script

Does anyone know what this means, what could cause it and how to fix it?
For info, my pooter is running under Win 98 SE, with 256MB of RAM, and I use these versions of the different packages:
binutils-2.11.2
gcc-3.0.4
newlib-1.9.0

Help ....... :cry:

Post by Soilwork »

I just downloaded & installed a newer version of Cygwin, in case my problem could be caused by a glitch in my (pretty old) version of Cygwin or something like that... I made sure I chose to install all the packages in order not to miss anything at all... It took about 20 hours with my poor 56k modem (started last night @ midnite and finished just before 8pm tonight..) to download everything :o
I then ran one of the scripts to build the sh4 tool chain, and in the end I got the same motherfukking error once again (cf older message, unable to fork)

So.. Can anyone help me...? What's wrong with all that? I tried != versions of gcc, != scripts, != versions of Cygwin, nothing worked ! Anyone has an idea? Or am I just ... cursed ? :(

Hmm, this time I tried again after formatting my Hard drive, same old result, unable to fork, resource temporarily unavailable.. Could it be a problem of RAM? Aren't 256MB enough for that? Do I need 4GB?!? My motherboard wouldn't support them anyway, limited to 512 :mrgreen:

Does anyone have an idea (erm, deja vu...) ?

my C++ compiler didn't compile either.
You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

I have the link to the Pern Project, but I did not think it was 4 real... I tried installing it, but I do not see Dreamcast as being one of the project types

The Pern project website works again, hurrah! :lol:
http://www.thepernproject.com/
Anyway I don't need it anymore, I followed Blue Crab's advice and downloaded the pre-built toolchain and now I finally have a working C++ compiler :D

Yeah I got the same error message, many months ago. I upgraded to windows xp and that fixed the problem :)

I can only guess that its something with windows 98 yet I only had version 1. Or someother program that is commonly run, cause I have seen that error many time on different message boards. I am sure someone has got it to work on win98 but its always a configuration issue.

ie IT WORKED ON MY MACHINE. :)

I got the compiler to compile first time under Windows XP Pro. Maybe it's Win98 being full of bugs again.
