Smeg and Nesterdc questins

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Smeg and Nesterdc questins

Post by Sakroz »

Hello Dreamcast Community,
i have got a question according to the Smeg Emu for Dreamcast.
Through the years ive collected quite a few number of sms roms,so i want to know how many of them can be put on one romdisk so that the emu can handle it?And i also want to know if i can leave them zipped or do i have to unpack them?
And i am going mad on the nesterdc emu.everytime i burn this with nero or discjuggler it just boots up in my DC but only shows a black screen. What did i do wrong?

i never used smeg, but i think they have to be unzipped.

as far as nester goes, did you put the unzipped roms on there ?
are the themes on there ?

..for the fast answer. But why dont you use the Smeg emu.Are there better emus for the master system available.
I just downloaded the nesterdc nero image and burned it.I presumed it would work like the other Emus where you just burn the emucd to boot up and then insert a romdisk.

Smeg is the best SMS/GG emulator.
ROMs for all DC emulators need to be unzipped (I'm not sure about the MAME emus, though).
It's thinking...

The emulator can handle as many ROMs as you can cram on a CD (as far as I know). NesterDC has a 1024 ROMs per directory limit so S suppose it's possible that SMEG might not be able to have more than that but I'm unsure - It DEFINATELY can do over 100, probably a lot more.

Oh, and as for NesterDC - Try using Dreamcast Factory if you're unsure what to do. It's the easiest way if you're stuck and getting errors.

are there even that many SMS/Game Gear games? I only thought there were a few hundred SMS and a hundred or so GG (lots of which were SMS ports).

I thought there were only a few hundered too. Maybe if you include all Japanese, American/European releases, alternates, hacks, official translations, unofficial translations, the rubbish Brazillian games / hacks / translations, and all of the demo / homebrew ROMs (of which there are about 40), you MIGHT just get up to 600 ROMs.

regarding the various replies in regard to how many SMS ROMS people have collected. I'm trying to collect EVERY SMS game - the real games - not the ROM files. My list that I am working off has 300+ titles and I only have 50 of them. I'm not including the trash Brazilian games, which will makes things easier.

SMEG ROM nto working

Post by cgmckeever »

Got SMEG to boot up successfully, however, when I put my rom disk in I get some brackets and some question mark looking characters on the screen. I have tried both zipped and unzipped rom images, but same result

Any suggestions????

Thanks
