Dreamcast SDK

Post by DuffMan »

I know that the Dreamcast SDK is very expensive, and is hard to get ahold of. But if a coder did get one in his possesion, would he know how to write code for it? Can he use the same kind of code that DreamSNES is in? Or would he have to learn whatever the official SDK code is?
OOH! YA! Duffman Says a lot of things.

it would still be c or c++. but the problem is you can't release anything without a license from sega if you use there official kit. if you did it would be illegal. and sega would not give out a license to somone who illegally downloaded one.

I have to wonder if SEGA would care... they never went after the BOOT disk guys really... and that was the worst. Infact, every "auto-booting" disk is illegal since its based on a hacked IP.BIN file.

With the dreamcast dead.... we are the only ones doing new software for it...

just a question though... How would anyone figure out which compiler is used, unles one does a bit by bit comparison of the files generated from the two, and if this is the case, then he or she must have a devkit, which would in turn be illegal for him or her.

True, but so long as there are legal methods to code for the dreamcast, then we shall. But as for the xbox, I think they only got the XDK, but there is also a free util devkit(sorta like KOS) is being developed[or so I heard from some people on mIRC].

For one, software made created with Katana NEEDS to be binhacked, therefore will not work with most selfbooting toolkits (DSSBS, Selfboot, Suse's Kit, etc.).

Second, software created with Katana will not work with DemoMenu/DCHakker or DreamInducer.
It's thinking...

The Linux being ported to Xbox, though nothing more than an image and a small bit of text right now, was made without using the XDK. Assuming information will eventually be shared, I don't think it'll be long until there is a publically available legal dev environment for the Xbox
