Hi Guys
I got a USB to serial port adapter for use with the Coders Cable when i dont have access to a docking station.
Its a fairly stratigtforward USB to RS232 via CH340.
However, no matter what COM port i set it to, it never sees the DC. Indeed the DC LOad on the DC never gets the white line down the right hand side of the screen that it always does when its connected.
Any ideas?
Well i opened it up and theres only 4 wires.
Looks like i'm missing one based on the coder cable pinout
Well all the pins are connected to the ch340 outs
OK when i check the pinouts on COM1 i have high on 2, 3 and 8
On the USB to RS232 i have no high on any pin
From the USB i have 5v on the VDD line, 0v on the i cant read it DW line? 2.5V on the DP
When i run the link test... i get high on 3 and 8. SO something is definitely getting to the RS232.
Removed my extension cable... worked first time. Or rather it loaded but did not execute
EDIT: Its the data coming back with is an issue. Use it as a dumb terminal

Did you get it to work as a dumb terminal in the end?
That would be a easy way to debug stuff I guess..

Re: USB to Serial Port Adapter - Use as Dumb Terminal
There's someone on the Gamedev.net forums who needs some help using dcload through the Dreamcast serial port. I've never used the serial adapter, so perhaps someone here could offer some advice? I thought about directing them here, but felt it would be better to include a solution. I think the exposure over there would be a good thing.
