Furious 6. & 7 Discussion

Post by cube_b3 »

I really think the next movie will be called & 7, that would be a pretty cool name.

I watched Furious 6 and it was okay, despite casting a lot of actors from past films specifically the Justin Lin films the lack of a believable plot (some random computer chip worth billions is stolen) and increasingly over the top action made this film less enjoyable than the predecessor. Critics suggest viewing it as a Super Hero movie and you will be able to enjoy it a whole lot more but I couldn't, I went with a friend and we both did not enjoy the car chases as you couldn't tell what was going on and honestly we were waiting for the movie to end.

On the other hand, hand to hand combat scenes were well handled especially the one between Michelle Rodriguez and the other chick. In the first scene you do not even know who to root for and it was extremely exciting. Not because of a sexy cat fight, but because it was well choreographed and bad ass. I found it comparable to the Vin Diesel Vs The Rock fight sequence from the last flick.

What do you guys think?

I don't think I've seen one of these since the really crummy Tokyo Drift one. Are they actually enjoyable?

The reviews for this new one actually seem to be pretty good. I guess if you know what you're getting into...

Well Steve,

Fast & Furious (aka F4) was basically the first movie in the series that actually had a plot that made sense. It was also the most sober and grounded in the series. It had a whole melancholy feel to it, with Vin Diesel's character realizing that they are on the wrong side of the law and their actions will get them killed. Basically a cast member dies, despite his efforts to disband the group. It reminded me a lot of Rocky 4, only with more characters than just Rocky.

Fast 5 tried to merge the fun with the plot. The result was something like the Italian Job. It was not as grounded as the previous movies but it had descent character development. Especially when you factor in the fact that they brought back all the protagonists and several supporting characters from the previous films.

Fast 6, did not work for me but with the last 2 films, Justin Lin had managed to make card board characters from the previous movies, in to characters that you would actually care about. So the movie was at least enjoyable. Even if it is the Weakest in Lin's trilogy.

Personally I did not like it because it basically negated everything the last 2 movies did and brought series full circle.

I enjoy them. Low-brow popcorn-munching dross at best, but I like stuff like that sometimes.

Besides, watching Vin Diesel getting all emotional like he's some sort of proper actor is hilarious.

I guess that's the end of that then.

Always sad to see someone go so young.

From what I have read &7 is a start of a new trilogy.

I don't know how much of a cliff hanger &7 will have... but it is easily possible to kill his character off and continue the franchise.

It was sad hearing about his death, I also read an interview that his survival was much more likely if his friends managed to remove his seat belt. Though he would have been dead on impact if he wasn't wearing a seat belt.
