SNES emu in the works

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Suggestions? Not really. I like the cartoonish looking SNES. And, yes, the text will be in a seperate font file. A TXF file to be exact. I'm also really liking mastakilla's bad ass bowser. The decision for the first release will be difficult. But keep in mind that it will be themable so don't get discouraged is I don't choose yours for the first release. All the work I've seen so far is awesome!

I like that Sonic one, that is really nice. What would be funny though is if he was playing that sonic snes homebrew (was it a homebrew or a hack?)

Beat me to it. I had in mind on doing a theme similar to this, but was having hard time looking for SFC resources.

that design lacks two things. Unity and harmonious balance.

add more elements to your design for the sticker lavalord, like a character faded into the background and try to get rid of some of the negative space (the black) by changing it's color to something less generic

I can also help on the music part.
If you need a splash screen/intro/credits theme,I can compose one for this project.
Just what kind of music you feel goes best for this emu?
A remix of a popular game theme?
or,a completely original track created using SNES-quality sounds taken from the SNES?
or,the best thing I made so far using professional-quality sounds and much of my composings skills, but it's NOT a game soundtrack?

It's up to you to decide.
Oh,If you plan yo include an MP3 player for the music, trash that and include an OGG player instead.OGGs sound MUCH better and the DC can play OGGs using less CPU power than playing MP3s.
And OGGs are LEGAL,unlike MP3s :)

I like the choices... but I'm not sure yet. Can I hear what you've done so I get an idea of style? Thanks.

Ogg Vorbis uses less power to decode? I think that depends a lot on the decoder being used.

On PCs, the MP3 decoders are much, much older, and they tend to have a lot of optimized x86 assembly code in them. Vorbis decoders, on the other hand, are usually just the standard Vorbis decoder, or the Tremor decoder (integer-only version).

On the DC, since we have no optimized MP3 decoders and we're using generic C ones, decoding MP3s isn't as fast as it is on x86. We're also using the generic Vorbis decoders. They basically run at the same speed.

The advantage of Vorbis is that you can encode at lower bitrate, and still get comparable (or better, depending on the bitrate and source material). Decoding less data on the DC takes less time, since you're not doing as many memory accesses.

Well we certainly wouldn't want to use tremor. Anyway, what about mpglib? Bero was using that in his media player. I don't know if he changed anything himself, on his site it just says "change mpeg audio decoder to mpglib with sh4 dct36". His source is now released, so you could always look at that.

Thanks
