I put 3.55 Waninkoko v2 on my PS3 and so far it's running pretty smoothly.

What made you choose that one over Kmeaw?

It was the newest one out when I was looking for Custom Firmware. From what I'm hearing Kmeaw has a few advantages over it, but it's running fine so far, so I have no need to upgrade at this point.

That's a really crappy metric to use when you're talking about something that could brick your console.

I thought I read that Waninkoko CFW had the bugs ironed out and wasn't bricking though? Having said that, I won't touch it. I like the work he does on the Wii but I'll stay right away from his PS3 stuff for now. Kmeaw for me.

I really am getting anxious to mod my PS3, but I still can't find a single person or tutorial that modded a kiosk PS3 without a jailbreak device. I might have to break down and buy one just to do it.

Forgive me for putting it in a vague sense. It truly caught my attention because it was the newest custom firmware available. It's not like I didn't research it first, especially after v1 bricked several 1st/2nd-gen PS3s. I read from many sources that it was very stable, and now I see it that way firsthand.

It runs just as stable as the official firmware. Nothing has crashed on me after extensive testing, and homebrew is nice. ;)

I don't know much about the kiosk systems. Can you get into service mode? (You hold down the power button to boot and keep holding until it shuts off again. And then press and hold the power button until you hear two consecutive beeps. You should then be in service mode). You might be able to install 3.55 from the service mode screen. If you can do that, then you should be able to install cfw.

If the above doesn't work, can you just buy a jailbreak device such as a blackcat usb in order to take control of the system. Cause from there you should be able to update, no?

The banhammer is coming. I as well as others with CFW have received an email from Sony telling me to remove all hacks or face a perma-ban. So to those of you with CFW: sticking it out on CFW or updating to OFW? There's also no guarantee that Sony won't ban your ass after you update and make your console unhackable.

CFW FTW.

Besides, it'll end up a cat and mouse game just like with the Xbox 360. Although, it would be nice if you could unban your PS3 like you could the original Xbox. If I wanted to play it safe, I'd get a second PS3 just for online gaming. But I don't really do much of that.

How are those SF4 pads anyway? I'm used to the DualShock 3 for fighting games, but I might get one for 360.
